Guys guys guys guys…

TODAY IS THE DAY! @SIGSTART and I are fetching our newest furry family member this evening! After nearly six months of searching and heartbreak and rejections and being just too late, we finally found Jake. He’s a Belgian Shepherd Collie cross, he’s 1 year old, and he’s a lovebug sweetiepie who loves going for a drive. We did a meet&greet with Sydney on Sunday and it went really really well. His current family have to give him up, they are heartbroken, but they are happy that he’s going to be joining our family.

What hurts more than going to the dentist?

Getting the bill afterwards. Ouch!

Morning all. Taps still dry in Casa Roja. “Hopefully by late afternoon” they say. :crossed_fingers:t2:

You would think access to clean running water is a basic human need.

Tell that to the millions living in rural and township areas…

100%. Was thinking exactly the same when I woke up this morning.

Of course the initial reaction was a huge grumpy negative - it’s irritating and frustrating as heck. But then the realisation that I only have to carry a bucket or two of water from the pool to the bathroom kicks in. And the fact that I have a 25 litre bottle of fresh water available to tap for drinking and washing.

Given the circumstances in many other places around the country, even without water and electricity at times, we are still on the fortunate side of the fence. And I am very grateful for that.

That said, it does then trigger my huge irritation that the “party of the people” have the audacity to boast that they have managed, in just a short 30 year period, to improve our “Citizens Living Above the Poverty Line” stat from 47% to a whopping 55%.

Wow. 8% improvement in 30 years. Imagine how much more could have been done if the corrupt bastards hadn’t siphoned off billions of Rand into their Swiss and Dubai bank accounts?

We’re in the same boat. It’s drydocked, but we’re in it.

Without water since Sunday. Luckily the Jojo is doing it’s part. Our kitchen was not hooked up to the Jojo inlet (weird decision by the plumber I only picked up after the fact) so my wife thought the dishwasher was borked. She didn’t even realize that the water was off… I’m on a trip to the Northern Cape, so if she didn’t tell me that the “kitchen tap also broke” I probably wouldn’t have put two and two together.

Agreed 100% with your writing, @GregRedd . We’re extremely lucky that we can afford to mitigate against our government’s utter lack of service delivery, so the grumpiness is shortlived. The prez is planning a visit to our neck of the woods on Thursday, and some folks wanted to give him some of the local water to drink. Maybe that’s why the taps are dry, for national security…

I’m a firm believer that all politicians are at least partially useless and costs us money. But I also firmly believe that most other political parties could’ve done better for the country than our current ruling lot.

Afternoon everyone.

Agree that politicians should face what they have unleashed upon the populace.

To follow up on my water woes from earlier…

To Joburg Waters’ credit, we did get our supply back at around midday. To their complete discredit though, we only got it back because they decided not to solve the problem that caused the outage in the first place.

This is the message they sent out:

No explanation as to why the valve repair wasn’t done, no indication of what’s going to happen now. Just a sorry for the inconvenience of not being able to supply you with water for the last 30 hours, and a hearty f you and pay your bill already.

Our outage was just coincidental to the big one on the other side of town. There’s still large parts of the Randburg - Soweto side of the city without water. And that’s despite the power problem at the Eikenhof Pumping Station that caused the issue having been (allegedly) solved late last night already.
