Don’t Assume My Topic Thread

I wasn’t going to post this but I need to get it off my chest and vent a bit so for some context see below. I made highlighted points that I draw attention to.

  1. I have never said I will not pay this amount, I just don’t see the necessity to pay for it NOW when I have more pressing matters.
  2. I have never defaulted on payments and pay my school fees ahead of time every single month, for 4 years now.
  3. I feel like the tone of this message is a personal attack and threat on me, and little to no compassion or empathy is displayed.
  4. Also, how can you have such an activity, label it as “compulsory” and just expect parents to front the bill.

Anyway… am I out of line, cos I’ve just drafted a response and am about to send it. I don’t mind sharing that if anyone so wishes.

@Wyvern this is Riverside College

@czc nah, I had an sit down with the principle on Wednesday regarding that.

The heavy handedness of the message suggests to me that you are one of many parents who have not paid and the school is now blaming their lack of planning and financial management on parents. Which is utter bollocks.

If the charge is “more than 30 days overdue” have they been invoicing it since March? Why is this the first you’ve been remindedthreatened about it? Were parents informed about the “compulsory” nature of the camp and the payment for it at any time before the school sent out invoices? Also, exactly what “further action” are they going to take that wouldn’t be a direct contravention of consumer and education laws?

The fact that they’re giving people a day to pay is incredibly telling. Someone gone fucked up their cash flow state so bad right now…

The camp was originally planned to happen just before the Easter Weekend, then a veld fire happened at the venue and they needed to postpone with all the schools as the venue was in no state to host it. It’s no one’s fault it was postponed, but as you say, and I agree with your sentiments.

We received forms on a Friday to be signed to give permissions to be signed and sent back the Monday. Still, I found it rather nerving to have something compulsory and just expect us to agree.

I feel like including this in my response, thanks.

Feels more like scare tactics and bullying.

UPDATE TIME!

I requested a return and refund using Takealot’s web portal on the Friday morning after having received the luggage scale on the Thursday afternoon. For those out of the loop, I was expecting electric toothbrush heads.

Monday morning around 11:00 I found an incredibly friendly Mr. D driver outside my gate, and handed him the box with a number on it and the luggage scale inside.

A little later on Monday I got a mail telling me that the package was received.

On Tuesday I got a mail that my refund has been approved, and I should see the money in my account in 7-10 days or something.

All in all, I think Takealot recovered well, even though I’m still annoyed with them and probably won’t recommend them soon.

But some 20 minutes ago, I got the best email.

Yes. They want me to review the product that I did not receive.

This is gonna be a fun review.

Well, there has been no response as yet. Today is the day that it should be settled so we’ll see. The funny thing is, it’s not like it is even a very large amount, they must be really hard up for it.

It should be breaking news when Eskom does not announce loadshedding.

Are they publishing an article with every announcement? That must create a lot of bloat.

We have load shedding scheduled today for 16:00 - 18:30. When load shedding starts at 17:00 today do we get load shedding for an hour and half? or do we get lucky and get skipped?

We got it when we were in that time frame earlier in the week.

Was skipped one time and then once was turned off with 20 minutes left. Walked downstairs that time and then wondered why there were lights on everywhere in Bedfordview.
