Nothing better to receive a call from your mum to find out she’s been diagnosed with XDR-TB.

That’s terrible news Beo, so sorry to hear. Any idea where/how she contracted it? Sending her, you, and the family all the positive vibes and wishes possible.

I’m sorry man, I read up on what that is and I can understand how devastating it is to receive that news. Praying for wisdom for the doctors and that one of the treatment drugs will be effective.

We’re not sure how or where it was contracted but it has been something they’ve been treating for a while now. Outside of that, a biopsy was done a few months ago as it was discovered that a fungus was growing on her lung (not sure if that is TB related) and that there was a hole in her lung.

Since then she’s been on treatment which includes around 18 tablets per day for a 6 month period. Now the specialists are saying that she MUST be admitted to the hospital and contained for a 6 month period in order to monitor and further treat.

Furthermore, we are being threatened by this doctor that should she not comply they will get a court interdict (or is it order) to ensure that this happens as she is flagged by the WHO and poses a public health risk.

The funny thing is she is not contagious, we have all been around her and have all been tested negative. But to be TOLD by a medical practitioner that she cannot sleep in the same bed as her husband and that she poses a threat to the general population is causing so many panic attacks and anxiety. And that she will be taken away and placed in a government hospital for this period is not good for her already bad ECG results and blood pressure etc.

I think the hospital that she has to be admitted to I know it as King George, I think it might have been renamed. Any KZN okes that know?

Oh good, we leave tomorrow for the Cape. What’s the top speed of a heavily laden rain cloud? We’ll stop in Bloem and Beaufort West just in case, to make sure the clouds can keep up and don’t get lost.

It has been drizzling on and off during the day, starting this afternoon. Painters painted the roof of my grandma’s house this morning, not expecting it to rain. By 17:00 the paint had all been rained off. R1000+ worth of paint down the drain… Literally. It’s all over the inside of the brand new gutters.

And it has been raining almost nonstop since 17:00
