A spot to post general election news and coverage from what is being seen by many as the most important elections in Sourh Africa since 1994.
Share news articles from reputable (and ideally paywall free) sources, interesting election trivia, your own election queue experiences, and of course, all those inked thumb pics. Also interested to hear if any of those outside SA voted last weekend, and if so, what it was like.
Feel free to also share any general cartoons and memes, poll results, observations and analysis that you find interesting. There’s many a stats nerd in these parts!
Please do keep in mind that we are a very diverse community here - keep the overly hyperbolic fear-mongering mud-raking stories and memes to your private WhatsApp chats, and refrain from party political kak and slander. In other words be the nice, proud, polite, positive Sourh Africans I know you are, or post elsewhere.

You neglected to mention which service provider is given 35% off on 2 rides up to R40 per trip. I’m assuming uber, but since I don’t live in a place with rideshare/e-hailing, I can’t be sure that uber is the only player anymore!

Yip, it’s Uber. Others may be too, be that one is specific to Uber.

Also long queue. The scanner had multiple issues. One was network, another was not scanning every ID - so had to manually type the number, lastly they ran out of battery. So that was 2.5 hours. Then the old people came and started skipping the queue. People complained and the officials had to find a compromise.

Voting done. Super quick this time, about 15mins. Then went to get the free ice cream from Polar, free coffee from Wimpy and would’ve got a free Krispy Kreme doughnut but they had run out of stock.
