I love Elite Dangerous in VR. Played it for months, just enjoying flying around in the evenings. Even bought the biggest ship back then. Now I can’t remember what the ship is called.
Perhaps you bought a Python? Or was it the Anaconda? I doubt it was the Imperial Cutter or the Beluga?
I would love to experience it in VR, it’s like a dream of mine.
Ahem… @FarligOpptreden
It was the Anaconda!
For any new players to the game there is a neat trick you should know. The Hutton Orbital station in the Alpha Centauri system sells the Anaconda ship for much less, like 80%, from the normal price…
If memory serves right don’t ya need a permit for Alpha Century?
But ja, Hutton Orbital is the station with a 15 minute supercruise?
Yes…15 minutes supercruise…thats all I swear…
So I tried the game out on an XBOX controller and played around with some key mappings for boost, cruise and yaw controls. It was quite comfortable and felt natural! So I spent 2 hours just cruising around a system and docking and undocking from stations, just to take in the splendor in VR. I didn’t achieve anything in the game during that time, but felt totally immersed in my ship. I need to put more time aside to restart the game and play everything from scratch again, as I can barely remember anything from the 6 odd hours I spent last year.
I just found one which is worse, and by that I mean the station is >1,000,000Ls away from the star. Took me like half hour to get there in super cruise.
Protip, again: first goal - buy a docking computer
That’s the beauty about Elite. There’s doesn’t always have to be a goal or objective. There’s no linear progression. The narrative is what you make of it and enjoyment comes from what you make of it.
I already have one. I spent that time sitting and looking around while the ship auto docked and auto launched. Still, I enjoyed the docking and docking minigame immensely.
Yeah you obviously don’t know about Hutton then. Hutton is a rite of passage, a voyage for any ED player to become one of the elite flyers. Hutton is one of, if not THE furthest station from your friendship frameshift drive drop point. It is over 6 million light seconds away which is almost a quarter of a light year. This is just over 1 and a half hours of consistently flying at full speed during super cruise to get there. And the only thing you’ll find is the Hutton Mug.
Yeah I remember flying there a few times when I played on PC. It’s hectic.
Odyssey coming to PC “full” release on 19 May on Epic Store and Steam. The game was a free giveaway on Epic and the DLC is costed at R387.99, so not a bad price indeed.
