Elite Dangerous

Oh you mean unlike a certain Star Citizen? :stuck_out_tongue:

But only if you want to play with others who have the expansion…

But in a compatibility post on Steam, Frontier explained that there’ll be effectively two versions of every world once Odyssey launches. Expansion owners will see the newer geography, while Horizons players will be stranded on the existing, lower-fidelity worlds. This almost means players will be separated by edition. Odyssey owners won’t see Horizons players on their planets unless they deliberately opt-out of the new content in the Elite launcher.

Also…

The DLC is down to just 31% positive on Steam, 33% on SteamDB, 4.8 from Users on Metacritic. There’s over 3 500 new Odyssey related issues posted to the Frontier Dev Issue Tracker (I stopped counting at 3500), and a raft of angry posts and threads on both the Elite Dangerous sub-Reddit and on the official Forums.

To be fair I guess, they spent only three years on developing a whole DLC expansion (“full production on Odyssey began in Summer 2018”) using most of their well-established team of developers in their long-standing studio ("…with a large majority of the Elite development team allocated to it").

But hey, at least it’s released, right? Right. :expressionless:

Threat Level 9 you say…

I think I only have my original starter Sidewinder accessible and functioning in Elite. Just couriering the keys for it over to the Thargoids is probably the most sensible thing for me to do…

Too good not to share.

I still love this game and it still looks stunning.

Indeed it does! I’m planning to get back into the game after buying myself a Logitech Saitek X52 Pro HOTAS for my birthday / Christmas. I tried it out the other day and really does add a lot to the game. Now to do the VR / HOTAS combo and really lose myself in the stars…

Oh, and I’m waiting for my Next Level Racing F-GT Lite foldable rig to deliver from Raru sometime in January as well. I’m planning on getting the flight attachments for the rig as well, so I can have my own little sim pit for racing and flying. Immersion level 11 imminent!

Well that’s a bit shite… Console Commanders will not be getting the latest and greatest going forward. Frontier will focus on developing the PC code base only.

I are very disappoint as I were being very hopeful.

Yeah, you and thousands of others it seems. What’s making it even more upsetting for many is the lack of any sort of attempt to offer any consolation.

No “console owners get a voucher/discount/offer to pick up the PC version”. Not even a “console commanders will be able to transfer their save files to PC version”. Just a lot of “we are exploring options for transfers but at present have nothing to announce.”

Should have explored those options before making the announcement to soften the blow somewhat. Right now, they’re coming across as saying “we tried, it was too hard, we can’t do it, we decided to keep the cash, thanks for your support, okay, bye.”
