Thanks. I also got “Followed standard insertion procedures” too (thats what she said!)
I highly doubt that I’ll be able to finish this. Will be going on our holiday soon and F1 2019 and Rimworld have just taken over my life gaming wise. They are both so good.
And done. This took far longer than anticipated. Now I just need to wait for the rest of Xen.
In the one or two places where I got stuck, I tried looking at some of the HL1 walkthrough videos, but Black Mesa and Half Life 1 look nothing alike so that proved pointless.
Played a bit more Black Mesa tonight, and got some of the way through “We’ve Got Hostiles”.
There was a frustrating part where I could see a shotgun and ammo inside a locked security office, and I could see the vent to get it, but I wouldn’t figure out where to get into the vent.
After playing on, I eventually got a shotgun from a soldier and I’ve decided to just press on. If I’m going to try and finish I can’t get stuck.
I’d forgotten how fantastic the level design for the original Half-Life was… and how scary it was in the beginning!
The flares are an interesting addition, but it’s a little silly to introduce a mechanic that only seems to be relevant for the first bit of the game until you get weapons.
And here’s a bonus screenshot I have on my machine from 2012. I think Black Mesa was just a SourceMod back then. It’s hilarious, which is clearly why I took a screenshot of it.
I’m really curious where that is
remember, you do go through that period again
Aha! You come back to this area later down the line, when you’ve already picked up the shotgun elsewhere. The game seems to flow quite differently from the original Half-Life in some places.
So yes, the vent was actually not a route into the security office… a door opens for you later on you walk straight through it. The vent just goes to an additional area where you can scavenge resources.
Is this not the immediate start to “we’ve got hostiles” where the security guy gets dragged INTO that vent, with the scientist banging on the door to try get him to open it? that specific area and how it flows is 100% just like in original Half-life. where you “come back” to that area to open the blast doors from inside that room, and then make your way to blast pit.
unless im thinking of another place
Crap! Work took over my life these last two weeks and now I realise I only have two days to finish this.
I’ll give it the old college try and see how far I get.
Unfortunately, I won’t be finishing this With all the PC problems and life crap, I just didn’t have the time or energy
Necro!
Started Xen this week, I’m quite impressed so far. I see they also added some more achievements to the base game, so will likely do a full achieve run after I finish up on Xen.
…so far its been worth the wait, very fun/interesting level design and it doesnt feel stretched out, even though you KNOW it is in comparison to the original.
Go play it guys!
Already finished it, it’s brilliant
Since Black Mesa is finished now, I still want to go back and finish it… as soon as I’m done with AC Odyssey (which is taking forever).
Well here we go again!
That explains the massive update!
