So it seems the general consensus is that this is a very good game, it is currently on special as well as all its DLC, so I wanted to know if anyone who has played this, has some annoyances with the game, are there some things in this game that anyone feels could be better or is just a bit of a schlep to deal with?
Looking to maybe get it.
Using https://www.steamsail.co.uk it summarizes the reviews as follows, is there anything here people would agree or disagree with here?
Well worth the price. Sure it has some “problems” but it is by no means a AAA title and it doesn’t pretend to be. It has quirks and character for an insanely deep and rich ARPG.
Seconded, over 2 hundred hours in it, played all of it, more than once. Good story. It is not D3 or D4 but it is its own kind of ARPG with a lot of experimentation and exploration to be had.
I would surmise that site scans historical data, that doesn’t take release versions and subsequent fixes into account.
Some technical issues. There are none anymore. UI frustrations, not a thing, but this is also subjective.
Combat can feel repetitive over time. This is every ARPG.
Not highly accessible to new players unfamiliar with ARPG mechanics. If I gave an FPS player an ARPG, I don’t think they would just get it. This is highly subjective.
Static map design vs procedural generation may be off-putting for some. This is a preference. Both can be done badly. The static map they speak of, is amazingly well crafted.
Occasional unbalanced loot drops that don’t suit personal playstyles. I don’t know what this actually means. The game is well balanced after so many incremental improvements and balance changes on gear. At the same time, it’s not competitive, so can we really think of balancing in the same light as a game with a public ladder or league system?
Some things I personally like.
The loot system, specifically monster infrequents. A type of item, a specific drop from a type of monster, that has a skill altering attribute, eg. lower cooldown. Think of it like a type of item, that can allow you to build your whole character around one skill, that under normal circumstances is quite mediocre.
They have hidden areas in the map. But wait, there’s more. The hidden areas, have hidden areas. It’s very cool. It not essential you go to these areas, but man are they nice, when you discover them.
Steam deck and by extension, controller support. It is stellar. You can chill with a controller, and play. And reach of the mouse and keyboard, if you need to do a bit of inventory management, as we all eventually need to do.
This game runs on a potato.
The constellation system is the best system I have ever seen in an RPG. It is functional. It is gorgeous. It can be build defining. Once you start chasing the “points” you need for this, I think it’s safe to say, you more than like this game.
My biggest annoyance is a problem I have. I binge on a game, get burntout, quit. Then when I come back, I need to get past that initial barrier of “getting into it” again. This game, has a mammoth amount of content in it. I would say PoE levels of content. So, trying to remember, wtf is going on, when you are coming back to it, can be off putting. That said, a start for a newbie, is quite good, and seems like they ease you in, through their choice of quests and map design early on. For this reason, when I do come back, I start a new character, then once I’m up to speed again on the game, I switch back to which ever character I was playing.
There’s never a guarantee, that someone else will like what you like. So here’s hoping.
thank you very much, I apologize I should have said I am used to ARPG games, I have played multiple of them so I know what I am getting myself into with repetitive combat and so forth.
I did bite the bullet and buy the game last night, and I have so far played 72 minutes and I get the vibe, very hard similarities to Titan Quest which is perfectly fine with me, of course that time is no where near enough to actually fully experience what the game has to offer, but so far so good, will keep going.
Iron Lore made Titan Quest. They went bust, and those exact people founded Crate Entertainment. That’s why the mechanics seem the same as Titan Quest. The engine is new. It’s not as clunky as TQIT was, and now TQAE is. If you go back and play TQ now, you will immediately know what I mean.
Got an jonesing to jam this 'gain.
Do it. I started again like 3 days ago. Enjoying it again after getting annoyed with (lack of) loot and lag in PoE 2 beta.
