inZOI - Every Life Becomes a Story

inZOI is a life simulation game where you can visualize stories of life with immersive, realistic graphics and deep, detailed simulation that creates unexpected occurrences.

A few months ago, as @Stefan noted, Paradox Interactive cancelled Life By You, the life sim game they had been working on. That led to a discussion about other alternate life sim style games. The one that seems to be the most developed is the upcoming inZOI coming from South Korean PUBG developer, Krafton.

“Every life becomes a story” Create your unique story by controlling and observing the lives of ‘Zois’. Customize characters and build houses using inZOI’s easy-to-use tools to live the life of your dreams and experience the different emotions of life created by its deep and detailed simulation.

inZOI on Steam (steampowered.com)

inZOI is a life simulation game where the player can alter any aspect of their world to create unique stories and experiences. Just like in the real world, you can find jobs to make a living while forming deep relationships through interactions. With a complete community simulation of every character acting on their free will, you can experience unexpected events to feel the various emotions life has to offer. With inZOI, we hope to share the message that “life itself is the true gift, and every journey has its own meaning.”

Live the life of your dreams!
inZOI provides a variety of creative tools, so that players can visualize the life they’ve always dreamed of. Developed using Unreal Engine 5, the game’s realistic graphics allows the players to let their imagination run free, with easy creation of different resources. Customize your character’s appearance and outfit and build your custom home using a wide selection of freely-movable furniture and structures. You can also adjust different parts of your property and surrounding roads as well as aspects of your residing city for a fully customizable experience.

In inZOI, Krafton’s ambitious all-in-one life simulator, you aren’t a God but rather an omnipotent office worker performing HR for miniature worlds under the tutelage of an adorable cat overlord. In addition to managing the needs and relationships of customisable avatars called Zois, you can build a metropolis with bespoke homes, businesses, and public parks. A slew of complications, like citywide mood sliders, weather conditions, and the potential for wild animals, juice up your all-seeing agenda, leading to a sumptuous simulation full of moreish chaos. It’s a gorgeous, formidable, system-filled world that, as of right now, still feels a little hollow.

Release for the game is still listed as “Late 2024” at the moment. There have been a number of beta and test review releases so far, and the game does seem fairly complete in terms of content. Some mechanics and game elements do need work though. See the IGN article above, and the video review from Rudi Rennkamel to follow for more insights.

A number of sim game content creators received a preview copy of inZOI from Krafton that they got to spend a few weeks playing with. One of those creators was Rudi Rennkamel who specialises in sim building and modeling. His builds in games like Planet Zoo, Anno, Manor Lords, and others are exceptional. His 50-hour video review focuses not only on building in inZOI, but also on a wide range of the games’ features and mechanics. Worth a watch if you’re interested in the game.

Maybe my PC is just old, but I think the specs required to run the game is going to make it slightly harder for people who normally play this genre to pickup the game, at least in my opinion.

Granted there is no The Sims 5 yet, but if we compare it to The Sims 4 which is obviously is direct competitor and still receiving DLC content. Then I personally feel its going to be loosing out on a lot of players who like playing The Sims games.

This specification reason is why I won’t be able to play it, even though I am quite interested and it looks like it could be quite good.

And, in not much of a surprise for anyone… early access release is delayed.

Inzoi, another in a line of seemingly-cursed Sims competitors that are experiencing delays, is—you guessed it—delayed until March 28, 2025. I’m halfway convinced EA has put a hex over anyone who makes The Sims-style games.

That would be the Unreal Engine 5 requirements coming in, every release on UE5 has been rather demanding. Those detailed characters, world simulation and realistic lighting come at a price. I think the more casual market will likely grab this on console anyway.
