I want the peas!

We currently have potatoes, spinach and a handful of random beans that came up again.

Peas and beans are more than just using an otherwise barren season. They put nitrogen back into the soil. Make sure you mix the roots in, don’t remove them.

Unfortunately, my peas are suffering in the 30 degree days we’ve been getting :frowning:

Ahh yes! I do recall them being used as rotational crops. Thank you! I’ll be sure to leave the roots in.

I forgot, but our spinach is also doing well still. Got a nice colourful variety with red stems.

I’m not much a garderner, mostly cos we don’t have one, though I do enjoy spending time in the garden. Came across this and thought I would share it here, a nice site that helps you take care of your little indoor plant babies:

Thanks! This looks like an excellent resource.

I’ve been wanting to get some indoor plants to help with air quality and such, so being able to click “low-light” on the dropdown helps a lot. I was hoping I could find some low light fruits/veggies, because I like having the incentive to eat what I grow, but at this point…

I also like the pet-friendly option they have. I have been wanting to get my little critter some plants for his cage. I know spider plants are good for that, but it’ll be nice to have some more options.

Beside my perpetual spinach patch, I finally harvested some leeks I planted what feels like 2 years ago ago.

Made potato leek soup and it was delicious.

I also planted some green peas for a quick turnaround, turned out great for a 1 square metre area.

Looks great!

I’ve still got a few peas going, but they’re a winter crop so I don’t think they’ll last much longer.

Can you remember which peas you planted? We haven’t had much luck in that regard

Sure, these are the exact ones @Wyvern

Germination rate is really good, 90% if not, more. Make sure you give them enough vertical support.

Oooh black friday sale too. Too bad I have too many seeds and can’t justify ordering right now

The great thing about peas is they put nitrogen back in the soil, so you can actually revitalize potting soil/etc with them. Eat the pods, then just cut up the shoots and dig 'em into the ground when the season is over.

That was actually my intention. Previous crop was tomato, so I did this in prep for a bigger tomato harvest this summer.

Thanks, we will have to make a plan first, the spot we grow in is very windy so we had issues with the beans but I def wanna give that a go. Also good grief we have enough spinach for a small army, I use 1 leaf a day and at least two meals and we give some to our cleaning lady and there is still more.

Anyone know why runner beans would get white on their leaves?

Its a fungus, weirdly spray it with some water mixed with sunlight liquid

How does one weirdly spray something?

I think copper fungicide works well too. Usually for me, I use sunlight just to help stuff stick, but I usually use it with neem oil for pests. Haven’t had much fungus problems. Yet…

After our Winter broccoli and cabbages got infested with cabbage aphids, I was a little less enthusiastic for Summer

I’m proud of the fact that I managed to cover enough peaches from the mousebirds:

I need to do the same for some plums. Other than that, the only harvest so far has also been spinach, and some green beans.

I’ve got some tomatos, brinjals, herbs, carrots, corn, and squash growing. All in really small amounts though. Many of my seedlings didn’t take off.

The granadilla is flowering and should fruit within the next month:

That fruits of your labour are showing

That produce looks amazing bud, enjoy!

Mine too, last winter, they got devoured. I don’t care enough for cabbage or broccoli to babysit and protect them

Cool flower, I’ve never seen a granadilla flower before.

Joburg has been getting an abundance of rain! I wish I had planned my garden better to take advantage of it. As it is, things are getting a bit overgrown.

We’ve had lots of green beans, at least 6kgs so far, and they aren’t slowing down. Not my favourite, but fresh from the garden, cooked with butter and garlic, they’re tolerable!

Some tomatoes and brinjals have fruited, and gem squash and butternuts are ripening too.

:sweat_drops:

A fun thing I tried was strawberry popcorn. Fun little mielies that I’m drying out for popcorn:
