Microsoft Flight Simulator ✈

Are you using “True to Life” assist settings? :open_mouth::clap::muscle:

Also, are you finding your mid-flight saves reliably restore you the correct point on your paused flight? Both times I’ve tried a mid-flight save I’ve been restored to the staring point of my flight on the ground. Maybe I’m doing something wrong. It’s weird.

Seems like I am using “pro mode” assists! I didn’t bother fiddling with it… That’s probably why I need to constantly adjust trim and throttle while cruising, as my altitude and heading keeps being affected by wind.

The one time I saved and restored it was fine… I’ll see tonight what happens when I restore this latest saved flight.

@GregRedd seems like my second save was somehow corrupt, as it loaded nothing when selecting the file. Oh well, on to some fjord hopping in the northern parts of Norway:

EDIT: …aaaaaaand first body of water AI glitch:

…and another:

To be honest, the whole north of Norway is filled with bodies of water that generally render incorrectly. So if you want to experience the game in its beauty and elegance, stay away from fjords. :stuck_out_tongue:

Couple more picks from a flight today:

Picking up Mr C Leclerc from Monaco to fly to Belgium for some race:

Flying out of Monaco is rather Nice:

The Alps looking amazing

Uh, Mr Leclerc, we’re gonna have a bumpy ride…

And…then the game crashed. Third day in a row where the game crashed mid flight. Pissed me off a bit.

Oh well, here is two more screenshots I haven’t posted yet:

Jetting over Bloemfontein:

Icing in the game looks amazing:

Ha. I love how the ATC pronounce it “nice” instead of “niece” - I made my first moonlit night landing there on Tuesday  on a Paris > Nice run.

Yeah, I’ve been getting a few crashes and glitches too. After an hour or two even navigating the menus gets a little slow and stuttery. Haven’t had any in-flight graphic glitches yet, but did get this one when I was setting up a flight:

Guess they weren’t lying when they said you can fly anywhere in the world…

Urgh…

Played a few hours tonight. Did my Cessna training and then found the Ballito microlight airfield! I flew from there to Virginia in Durban North and, even though a little different in places, the buildings are close enough that I could recognise most of them!

I could not think of a call-sign as cool as @DieGrootHammer’s… Poop hall.

Patch inbound some time this week:

And a free airport from 3rd party devs, Aerosoft:

(I used the Amazon Asien link to download it, despite it saying that was the “Busy” one. It’s the only direct download that avoids all the forms, adverts, and prompts to sign up to the download site.)

Here’s OA’s thoughts on the free airport and the upcoming patch:

So, if you want a short, yet challenging flight, with potentially amazing vistas, then fly from FXNH to FXME in Lesotho. Take off NE, then follow the river North…

I’m thinking of trying this out for racing games. It’s R88,99 on the Play Store

I gave it a quick try in MSFS and Dirt Rally 2. Looks like it could work.

That’s quite impressive considering there is no need for head trackers to placed on your face, head or cap etc.

But now, why can’t we just run the same software on windows and use a webcam? The concept is proven…

You can. Using AIRLegend/AITrack with OpenTrack (the same app that the eg above uses)

Both programmes are freely available on GitHub:

AITrack notes say:

But… I don’t have a webcam :frowning:

No problem. This program supports Droid Cam, so you’re able to use your smartphone as a camera.

My webcam is too old

Don’t worry. AITrack supports low resolutions pretty well. Anything achieving at least 30fps and 480p will do the job fine.

I played around with this combo on the weekend and was pretty impressed. Very responsive out the box, and with some fine tuning of the sensitivity paths I think it could work very well. Did not try it on any of the driving games though.

Oh, and here’s another option for iOS users that also uses OpenTrack:

The Head Tracker app is available for Free on the Apple App Store (presumably ad supported) or the full version (presumably ad free) is just $1.99:
Edit - turns out the free version of the app is time limited to 10 minutes of use to test if it works, then $1.99 through in-app purchase to unlock and use for unlimited time

Haven’t tried this one myself, but will hopefully have a look at it later today.
