New World (Amazon's MMO)

I have all but stopped playing this game. Despite my best efforts NOT to level, I reached end game a little while back and the only progression lies in doing a run through 2 elite level 63 areas with a “bus” of people, once a day, to open chests to get item drops.

The end level progression uses a “watermark”. Basically at level 60, any level 60+ mobs can drop any gear and this gear will push the “watermark” for that specific item type up by one. Example: you start at 500 gear score (the first item that will drop like this will be 501). The next time the same item type drops from a level 60+ mob it will be gear score 502, and so on. You can easily buy 590 gear score items from the auction house so it would seem no biggy, since all these items are bind on equip. The problem is that this does not raise your “watermark”.

This means if you do a level 60+ dungeon, the items you get from it will be at your lowly 501 for a specific item type.

This is the reason the “bus” exists, once a day. They are not fun, it is 20-30 people running through killing everything and looting chests, no challenge. You used to get upwards of 20+ items drop, each different item types, each pushing your unseen gear score for that item up by 1, all of them useless and destroyed.

Since the new patch these “SM runs” now drop 3-5 items for the whole hour + run, a day. You can see the problem here. There is literally no point unless you are a REAL die hard fan to play now. I was hoping (like most other MMOS) for dungeon runs every day but, no. In NW the dungeons are locked behind a key, the key has to be crafted and some of the ingredients only drop once a week. So in the end no one does dungeons to advance their gear score.

I will return once they have new content, their current “new content” is at level 25 and over in minutes.

Yeah, it’s a bit sad to see, but I don’t think you’re alone in your disappointment.

I haven’t seen any sort of future content roadmap at all so far.

The lack of post Level 60 content, the weirdly unbalanced server populations, the raft of glitches and exploits, the many bugs… all are contributing to rapidly declining player numbers.

Which is all very sad because it held so much promise to become a really good, long lasting MMO.

Haven’t been back to New World for a while now but I’m still getting the updates because it’s still installed. And every time I’m amazed at the size of the download compared to the size of the patches’ decompressed and installed size. 15.6 MB to 9.5 GB this time around.

Sadly, it sounds like this latest patch is once again a needed set of fixes that were created by the big December Update at the beginning of the month. I honestly don’t think there’s been a single update to the game that hasn’t needed an urgent hot fix soon after it was released. If anything, AGS could do with some serious whip cracking in the QA department.

These are the details of the December “Winter Convergence Festival” Update:

And the details in the 1.2.1 Patch that went out yesterday:
