My Ford debacle : I had a Ford that I bought brand new and had it serviced at the exact same Ford dealership from day one. So just after the car came back from it’s second service it overheated. Took it back and the head was cracked. Turned out that they never filled the radiator fully after draining the coolant and on top of that they left the radiator cap half-skew turned on. After a massive fight with Ford they replaced the entire engine.

I’m full of shit with what goes into my car.

The mechanic that fixed the oil debacle also said this. Don’t let the guys at the garage check your oil and water. Do it yourself when the car is cold.

my husband is also like this. he checks everything himself.

tell him to just buy a second hand engine from a breaker and have it installed, lots of places import low mileage engines from the uk which you can pick up between 10-15k (normally comes with a 3 month warranty) some of those places even install it for you

try this place

thanks Dohc, he was actually looking into just getting a new engine, will tell him about these ppl if he has not contacted them already.

Opel just got back to him and have now lowered the engine replacement as they can get him a remanufactured engine at a price of 70k ex VAT…and they still dont want to give him the dealer princple’s details… these ppl

Contact Opel South Africa if the Stealership keeps giving you kak

Is there no warranty on the work Opel did previously? Shouldn’t be expected to pay if the failure can be directly linked to poor workmanship from the dealership.

I concur, follow dohcs advice and get an engine from the breakers - well worth it, its how my dad get engines for the race car.

http://www.headzone.za.net/ Also ask these guys who they would recommend to get second hand engines from. They will most likely install it for you guys as well.

And definitely start bugging head office Opel with this bull - your dealership is taking you for a ride, they love doing it because most people are eejits.

It’s a very gray area actually. If the thermostat or water pump failed, was of the wrong type or improperly installed then yes, else they will claim wear and tear and leave you out of pocket. It’s almost impossible to prove dealership negligence after you’ve left the workshop.

And this is why when I get any work like this done I go to my guys, plus I keep an eye on them and check what they are doing. And they have no issues with me hovering I know a lot of guys hate it but I tell them to fuck that i am paying them to do the work and I want to see what they do.

We had the issue with LandRover with my dad, where they did not redo the engine at all, my dad took pics of the engine block and pistons before, during and after - the same everything - nothing even touched they just took it apart and put it back together.
