Marcel the Shell with Shoes On

Cinema release: 24 June

I am smitten by a tiny talking shell named Marcel who has one eye and wears shoes.

Born out of a short stop-action clip over 10 years ago, Marcel is making the transition to the big screen in his feature length debut. His creator, Dean Fleischer-Camp, interviews Marcel, who is wonderfully voiced by Jenny Slate. The movie also features cinema royalty with Isabella Rossellini lending her voice to the character of Marcel’s grandmother, Connie.

Here’s the three short films that first introduced Marcel to the world.

There are also a couple of picture books featuring Marcel, but they’re hard to come by and expensive to import.

“Guess why I smile a lot?” he asks. “'Cause it’s worth it.”

I honestly haven’t gone to one in over 3 years, and the last time I went it was because I won tickets to something.

I think the last movie I went to see was Avengers Endgame.

As much as I love my movie experiences, I don’t think the value vs experience is worth it nowadays.
