does beta versions of solutions/software require a disclaimer to be aknowledged by the user?

A disclaimer as in “This is beta software. It may or may not work the way you expect it too. Don’t kak on us if it messes up your stuff. You have been warned. Etc.”? I would think it doubly important to cover the software developers.

or is it just a given that beta assumes “work in progress”? By simply putting a “beta” label over or near a solution or specific functionality is that enough.
I like the disclaimer route as it requires acknowledgement fro the user.

Never make assumptions about the stupidity levels of users. If we need to put “Caution: contents may be hot” warnings on coffee cups, and “Do not use while wearing clothes” on iron packaging, you need a disclaimer on your software.

Specifically acknowledged indemnity is always better than implied indemnity. In your case depending on how far along the beta is someone somewhere might use it for production. Hell even gmail said beta for years.

Wish me luck, send me good thoughts. Found out I am in stage 3 chronic kidney disease. Seeing dietician today and whenever I can get an appointment, a nephrologist. Can thank covid for it, 10 months with heart out of rythm pushed the blood pressure very high and damaged the kidneys.
It is not reversible but I can make work to make sure it does not move out of stage 3.
Will let you know how it goes.
