Cheese and onion on the braai with hickory chips on the coals. Even better the next day.
Tomatoes can get stuffed (no pun intended)

So our body corporate want to put a camera at the gate and use my internet connection to support it as my unit is the closest to the gate. Not sure I want that to be honest.
I don’t understand, why do they need your internet connection? Surely they need a camera and a DVR.
And if they do need your internet connection and there is no option then they should compensate you.
The response that came to me…
We have a request from the Body Corporate.
They want to install a camera at the gate, but it needs an internet connection.
I assume you have uncapped, but not sure about your line speed and if you’re willing to share a bit of bandwidth for one camera at the gates
If it were me it would be a flat out “thanks but no thanks”. Soon as you agree to something like that it seemingly invariably becomes your problem to resolve when things go wrong. And we all know that issues with internet connections happen.
What happens if you decide you can no longer justify an uncapped connection, or want to drop your connection speed to save a couple of bucks. What happens if your ISP goes through a rough patch - like what happened to Cool Ideas with their DDOS attacks a while back? What happens if you get gatvol with your ISP and decide to cancel your account and switch to someone different and there’s a one week delay in getting you back online? Or when you’re away from home and get a frantic call because the router needs to be rebooted or hasn’t restarted after loadshedding?
Nah, not worth the headache. The complex is obviously cabled for internet. The BC should just apply for a separate connection to the gate camera, and set up a dedicated internet account for it. That way, when they want to expand the camera network (as they invariably will, and should!) they already have the necessary bandwidth and account in place.
Thanks for the feedback y’all.
Morning you sexy fuckers
Almost the weekend so that’s good
Actually, you can ask them to pay for part of your internet connection. That’s what I would have done.
Morning
Morning peoples.
Our power is going off at 8 so will be missing the start of the F1 testing! I worked super hard this week so that I can take it a bit quieter today and keep an eye on the testing.
But Eskom. They just love to interfere.
Good morning everyone.
I would tell them most of the NVR devices don’t receive security patches and can be a cybersecurity threat to your own personal network. If they keep badgering you, tell them they’ll need to invest in a WatchGuard or Fortinet firewall to be kept at your premesis, and contribute to your internet connection (as already mentioned) as well as electricity costs.
Morning people of the palace. I woke up early just got dad to tell me we are not going to the office today.
Have a good one!
Yay! Unexpected long weekend is best long weekend!
It was a nice, cool and cloudy morning, but I see the sun is coming out. Hopefully it doesn’t heat up too much.
Speaking of, isn’t next weekend a long one?
Yeah it looks like it is. The Monday rule strikes again.
My response to the body corp.
I think I would have to say “No thank you”. I feel that there are just too many factors that would be outside of my control in order to maintain such a connection. Be it electricity (you know Eskom), internet issues, ISP, security exploits, bandwidth, etc.
What happens if I decide to downgrade, or cancel such service, or if we’re simply away from home and something should happen?
I think these are all valid concerns.
I hope you and the BC can understand my perspective.
No, they can have their own internet put in at the gate…
Otherwise they will need to compensate you for the internet usage. If you have fibre i dont see why a little box cant just get installed at the gate?!
When fibre was installed at our complex a box was put in at the gate in the event we wanted to have a fibre connection (which wasnt necessary at that point). No all we need to do is get an ISP and router and connect our cameras.
We had an incident this week where a couple of kids under 6 decided they were going to climb on a car and use it as a slide…watching the footage just makes my blood boil (because parents are not supervising their kids and complain and abuse trustees when we asked them to accompany their kids under 12 in the common property). No i have to hold a meeting with parents …
