Hey hey

I started thinking that when they asked for your CV. Surely you would have already sent that off?

Sounds like it’s time to set up a dedicated email address for job apps… If you’re using gmail, you can even add in as many dots as you want before the @ sign, and the emails will still get to you.

Like, [email protected] would go to [email protected], but you’d be able to see the dots. Just keep track so you’ll know which site you used that pattern of dots with, and you’ll know which site put you on a scammers list.

Really, I thought it was just the plus in the name that did that.

I didn’t know about the +. That doubles up the patterns you can use

The plus works a little different though. If your Gmail address is [email protected], any mail sent to [email protected] arrives in your inbox. So you register on different sites with different anythings in place, ie. [email protected].

Then you check the sent address on any spam received. If you see [email protected], you know it’s Reddit that sold/exposed your email address to the spammers, and you know which address to change and block. Unfortunately a lot of site registration systems simply fail when confronted with as exotic a character as a plus in the address field, so it’s hit and miss.

Good Friday morning

Loving the unexpected overnight rain we’re having up in Joburg this morning. It might last for most of the day too.

I had a Phillips XL, but it died a week before the warranty expired. I took it back to Dion Wired, who said it was discontinued, but gave me the ‘latest model’ as a replacement. Ya, they put the digital display on the small model and called it the ‘new model’… I told them I got it because it was XL, and this one does me no good, so I got a full refund.

Ended up getting one of those sunbeam convection ovens for a fraction of the price. It is a little less efficient, but does the job.
