The Formula 1 Thread 🏎

I see that to comment on the post and call the writer out for his nonsense you have to register with them (it’s free though but they get your email) so well played Sowetan Live, well played

The Sowetan, like so many other local publications coff News24 coff has gone full tabloid, so they’re all to happy publish clickbait bullshit. Don’t ruffle your feathers about it too much. Also get more meds, man, that’s essential! If you’re in discomfort, it’s probably reasonable to ask your doc for a new script for a different pharmacy. My wife says so long as it’s not schedule 6, it’s perfectly fine to ask for it.

Ans so all is done, the best year of Formula 1 has been completed, and we have a brand new World Driver Champion. This has truly been the best season of F1 I’ve ever seen, and definitely the best season, controversies and all, for over the past decade.

So now that we can look back at the season, there are 2 questions I have to ask: What was your 5 best races this year, and who is your 10 best drivers of the season.

Mine is as follows:

Best 5 races (in order):

  1. Monza
  2. Imola
  3. French
  4. Russian
  5. Abu Dhabi

My personal top 10 drivers of the season (in order):

  1. Max Verstappen
  2. Lewis Hamilton
  3. Carlos Sainz
  4. Lando Norris
  5. George Russel
  6. Pierre Gasly
  7. Charlers Leclerc
  8. Sergio Perez
  9. Mick Shumacher
  10. Fernando Alonso

Day 3 without F1:

I was in the car with my dad and wondered if we were close enough to the car in front to activate DRS.

Where is @DieGrootHammer and what have you done to him!?!?

Presumably, the FIA have given Mercedes all sorts of assurances that their internal investigation and review of the farcical end to Abu Dhabi will be done properly and that appropriate changes to the rules will be made. No confirmation that Michael Masi’s head on a platter is part of the agreement.

Max Verstappen will be crowned the unchallenged 2021 Formula One World Drivers’ Champion at the annual FIA Awards Gala in Paris this evening.

If Lewis and Mercedes no-show the event, they could face fines themselves. Unless that’s another part of the reason Merc won’t appeal?

In true “we’re such a progressive 21st century organisation”, the only place that the FIA Award ceremony can be watched live by the public is via their FaceBook page.

I’m
 Alright, thanks.

I can’t see Masi having a long time left with this investigation happening, but similarly the F1 rules and application thereof needs a serious overhaul. The rules that were applicable at the end of Abu Dhabi are incredibly ambiguous, and it’s not the only ones that came up through the season coff track limits coff.

My bad
have just discovered that the FIA Prize-Giving event will also be carried live by F1 themselves, through their YouTube channel. So if you really, really want to watch it, and really, really don’t want to do so on FB, here’s the alternative:

I didnt watch the prizegiving, who won?

The FIA has a new president:

Wonder if Jean Todt will rejoin Ferrari in an advisory position next year?

Now that you mention it, there’s actually a lot of annual awards issued by the FIA, not just the F1 stuff:

Sulayem: “No forgiveness” if Hamilton breached FIA gala rules (motorsport.com)

Not Masi?

That’s utterly rediculous, incompassionate, and a stupid, stupid thing to do for your first act as FIA Prez. Did Masi assist him with this ruling?

The article title is a bit click-baity. He seems far more reasonable from what you can read from the rest of the interview. At most Hamilton and Toto would get a fine for not attending since those who came 1st, 2nd and 3rd are obliged to attend.

I have never heard of the guy. But if he can put more certainty and clarity and consistency into the FIA then bring it on!

It would be a huge loss if Lewis does walk away, certainly to Mercedes but especially to Formula 1.

I personally think (hope?) he isn’t going to quit now and will come back next year all guns blazing to hammer home the “Masi and the FIA f-ed up!” point.

I think a lot will depend on the result, if any, of the FIAs investigation into the Abu Dhabi debacle and the subsequent, needed changes to the rules. If they land up trying to whitewash the whole embarrassing affair, then I honestly wouldn’t blame Hamilton if he does decide to take a break. If he does, hopefully it’ll just be a temporary one year thing to “recharge and refocus” and nothing more.

If he does quit, I think the Bottas back to Merc, and Giovannazzi back to Alfa or Piastri to get the seat, is the most logical and likely scenario.

So, do you think Lewis stays or goes?

  • He stays.
  • He stays, and wins the 2022 WDC by miles!
  • He takes a one year “sabbatical” and takes the time to record a Grammy-winning hip-hop album called #Blessed.
  • He quits for good.
