I’m guessing that this is the differentiator - intent.

“A pink hat is gay” might be fine in some contexts, but it wasn’t intended that way in this case.

I think it’s more to do with the fact that he’s in a public spotlight and with all the sensitivities these days, he has to unfortunately watch what he says. And I agree, intent is the bigger problem in my opinion, not words.

What’s the racial slur thing though? that might have been the bigger issue than calling a pink hat gay, that just got added on. I’m in one of those groups that gets descriminated against but I generally don’t get riled up by such bullshit(probably coz I was never really on the receiving end? I find that my own people descriminate agianst me more lol)

It was more the N word that has landed him in hot water:

From what I understand this is a clip from Lawson’s stream, you hear Vips speaking over coms.

As someone put it in one of the comments on the video:

Some people seem to not understand the logic behind Vips’ suspension. It’s not the fact that Vips was offending someone with the word (which he didn’t in this case), but It’s the fact that Red Bull, a multi-billion dollar company, is now seen by the public as a company that has someone saying the word. Another fact is that this word shouldn’t come out of someone’s mouth in the public, especially someone at his level.

Vips, an “employee” of Red Bull, saying the word out loud in the public eye, is a PR nightmare for Red Bull, and they have the right to punish him for that. While the punishment may seem harsh for everyone, I assume that it’s not for Red Bull in the business world, they have their brand reputation to keep, and someone saying the word without any consequences is directly against what they’re trying to do. It’s business, and this is how it works.

For us South Africans this would be comparable to him using the K word in our context. Even if the intent is not malicious the word itself has such connotations that will always be problematic and offensive.

Tune in this weekend for the next thrilling episode.

For any F1 fan, do yourself a favour and watch this. Man just watching it now brought back all the emotions from that historic day.

As much as the 2022 season has shaken things up a bit and produced some great races, I don’t think anything will compare to the intensity of '21’s title fight.

Another racism furore in the halls of F1. This time it’s Nelson Piquet Snr. being the dumbass.

And the Vips saga has also just come to the inevitable and expected conclusion:

HiTech has decided to let Vips keep his seat. I can see the reasoning and can get behind their reasoning.

I think that is way better way to handle this.

Yeah I can get behind this. These days it’s so quick to just drop people completely because of one bad thing they did or said. Or heck people even go back in their history and say see, this one time, at bandcamp, he did a thing. Obviously the flipside of this is that some people can just abuse this by saying ah I’m sorry I won’t do it again with fokol remorse, but still, I’d rather opt for that.

And I think that HiTech’s response is a good balance with Red Bull’s. It is good that Vips was dropped from Red Bull and still given a chance to redeem himself with his current team. He’ll have definitely learnt his lesson and now gets to prove himself, not by mere statements or virtue signalling but through consistent actions.

I like this because no one is one dimensional. You are not just your worst qualities and neither are you only your best.

Round 10: :uk: 2022 British Grand Prix :uk:

Silverstone Circuit | Silverstone

Righto then chaps. Tally ho, what what. For Queen and Country! Hundreds of thousands of Brits gather at the “The Home of British Motor Racing” - aka Silverstone. It’s the home GP for a number of the drivers and many of the teams, with many of the constructor bases in very close proximity to the circuit. This will be the 73rd time a British Grand Prix has been held.

With a raft of upgrades for many of the teams and a return to form of the Mercedes team, it could be another record breaking weekend for Lewis Hamilton. With 8 previous GB GP wins already (including the last 7), LH44 is the undisputed King of Silverstone. Whether he does or not though, it’s very likely to be the first true three-way challenge this year with all 6 of the top drivers looking strong. Hopefully all six stay out of each others way and we get to see some good, safe, and close racing on Sunday.

High possibility of some rain around FP3 and Qualifying on Saturday, but Sunday should be cool and mostly dry. That said, it is England in Summer so expect the unexpected on the weather front.
