Heck and bollocks. Not the result Ferrari had hoped for, but Max and that Red Bull are untouchable. Deserved the win. And going to clearly deserve both Championship wins. Great drive by Carlos from the back one or two more laps after the safety car and he may have been able to make a heroic move on Russell for the podium.

Top substitute’s job by de Vries too. Deserves the Driver of the Day.

Not a great ending to the race either - F1 needs to seriously revisit the late in the race red flag/safety car situation. It’s going to happen again.

Those Sky commentators still just can’t keep their bias in check almost a year later, can they? Despite the rules being followed today.

Short break then the Asia back-to-back: Singapore 2 October, Japan 9 October.

Fell asleep halfway through the race coz I was dead tired. Had to watch on catch up now, what a lame-o end to the race but yeah, I don’t think Ferarri would have been able to win. Top stuff from them though, great showing from both the drivers and the team. No cock ups so I’m happy. We hopefully keep this up and move it on to next year.
Special shout of to de Vries, hopefully me putting Albon in the top ten counts on SuperBru?

The little Dutch fellow may well be get another run behind the wheel.

To be honest, I suspected he would miss Singapore in anycase, even tho they say 3 week max recovery, that wouldnt mean he is physically fit enough to withstand the g forces in the car

The GOATifi is a goner.

After his super-sub for Albon in Italy, I guess that Nyck de Vries has a pretty solid shout at the seat for next year.

Yeah that was pretty confirmed when de Vries did better than he did after one session.

I wonder if he’s up for the Alpine seat.

Guess that’s possible too. Still think it’s also possible that Dani Ric might slide back on over to the Renault Alpine side of life though. I guess we’ll know soon enough - it is almost October already.

:singapore: 2022 Formula 1 Grand Prix of Singapore :singapore:

Round 17 | Marina Bay Circuit | Singapore

For me, if you survive Singapore, then you’re fit for anything else in Formula 1!
~Carlos Sainz~

It’s been a little while since F1 was last in Singapore for the OG Night Race. The streets of Marina Bay have been Covid closed to Formula 1 since 2019. That race was notable for marking not only his fifth Singapore GP victory, but also Sebastian Vettel’s last F1 win. And in his farewell visit to the island city-state, that statistic probably will not be changing.

Also not likely, but at least mathematically possible, is the fact that reigning Drivers World Champion Max Verstappen could claiming his second WDC title this weekend. He would need a staggeringly improbable set of race results in Singapore to make it happen though. Verstappen needs to outscore Ferrari driver Charlie Leclerc by 22 points, Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez by 13, and Mercedes’s George Russell by 6.

Whatever happens, the drivers are preparing for one of the most physically and mentally demanding races of the season.

To keep mentally sharp is the most difficult, because in the heat, you leave me in the car another half an hour driving at a certain speed I can survive, but if you want those last three-tenths of performance, of focus, it’s really mentally challenging to keep them because of how draining it is.

And the vibrations of the car, it’s difficult to keep the eyeline [level], and it’s anti-clockwise, so also the neck is sometimes suffering. When I’m training in pre-season January and February, I’m thinking about Singapore – I’m not thinking about the first race.
~Carlos Sainz~

The Schedule

Night time is the right time for racing in Singapore. Not only is it significantly cooler for car and driver, but it’s also a heck of a lot more convenient for fans watching from afar.

The Circuit

Crucial in the tight twisty streets are grip levels. With the F1 cars and their aerodynamic performance having evolved so much since the last time F1 raced on the Marina Bay streets, the way the new gen cars are going to handle close racing on the notoriously bumpy city streets is going to be interesting.

Marina Bay is also known for it’s perfect record of Safety Cars. There’s been at least one SC period at every Singapore GP since its return to the F1 calendar in 2008. In total, there has been 21 Safety Car deployments in the 12 times the event has been run. Odds are we’ll see number 22 this Sunday.

The Weather

The Equatorial climate, heat, high humidity levels, and the ocean proximity all combine to create a micro-climate environment that teams and drivers cannot ignore. Weather changes quickly, and the city streets get shiny, slick, and slippery at the hint of rain. And based on the forecast for the weekend, there is a going to be more than just a hint of the wet stuff. There’s going to be buckets full, all weekend.

The News

Lots of news making the news as the season enters its final phase. Keep up with all things Singapore GP and F1 related by following the official F1 site.

F1 Race Programme

With a contract extension for the Singapore Grand Prix confirmed earlier this year through to the 2028 season, things are looking healthy for the future of the race. Long enough certainly for someone to equal and then better Sebs five victories. I wonder if that someone will be Max or if it’ll be Lewis?

Race on!
