I’ve built my castle close to the horse racing track because I thought it would give me easier access to replace my horse if it dies. Ironically now since I learned how to give it water I’ve had the same horse since the start of the game.

For me the horse controls are painful, I end up parking it somewhere and then exploring in wolf form.

Yeah I do exactly this. My horse stays hydrated in my castle and I explore in wolf form.

I happened to fight the boss in there this evening, you need a Holy resistance potion to go in there.

Not sure how people melee in this game, I just get taken apart. I keep falling back on kiting with chaos volley + something + crossbow.

I think the focus is definitely on spells, the weapon skills are ok, but the normal weapon attacks are next to useless against anything but the weakest enemies.

I need to build a home I just have no idea where, cos either Treants kill me or big bear things
