Have you ever done that? The contributors in the article are reviewers so this would happen more often for them than for the regular gamer who would usually just drop the game, but sometimes we push on, maybe because we have to tie up loose ends, get our money’s worth or complete it for the Game Club.
So what game did you finish even though you didn’t enjoy it that much?
Hitman Absolution. Mid point i really just wanted to finish the game to get it over with. The repetitiveness just killed the fun and excited i had for the game
Bioshock Infinite, it was a disjointed clunky affair. When I thouht i was about half way through it ended up with me actually being around 80% done. Then suddenly and abruptly the whole damn thing just ended.
I don’t think I’ve ever finished a game I didn’t enjoy. I rarely actually finish games, so there’s no way I’m going to keep playing a game I don’t enjoy.
That horrible NFS most wanted remake they did, where in order to get a new car you have to go looking for one around town. Litteraly just finished it for the sake of finishing it.
I’m sure there has been something, but I can’t think of it right now. Like other people have already said, I usually stop playing if I don’t enjoy myself. The whole point of the game is to be relaxing and entertaining and not be frustrating or feel like work.
Thanks for the responses. I also struggled to think of a game that I forced myself to finish as I usually drop a game if it’s not fun anymore - or rather I tend to get distracted by another game.
Bioshock Infinite probably comes the closest for me. While I did enjoy the game, the combat became annoying towards the end and I remember just pushing through it to see how the story turned out.
At the time I wasn’t particularly in the mood for military style games but the story had me hooked, then it turned out to have really heavy subject matter.
I will never forget it but damn it was a mission to get through.
I guess it’s how combat should be? ie not fun?
Agreed. Personally i loved played Bioshock Infinite… Maybe not in my top 5 but definitely one of my favorites. Also The Last of Us is easily in my top 3 of all time awesome games.
Funnily enough, I enjoyed the combat in Spec Ops. Maybe it’s because I haven’t burnt out on third person shooters like many console gamers have. The slow-mo effect on headshots was a nice touch, and set up a clever juxtaposition between the glorification of violence in games and the real horror of warfare.
I have had a couple of games like that but the first that jumps to mind is:
Assassin’s Creed Unity
In general, it usually comes down to FPS games. Most of the time, I either force myself to play through them or I simply don’t finish. Can’t think of anything specific right now though.
Beyond: Two souls. So many things wrong with it. Got it with PS+.
I don’t like the actress.
The inability for you character run, even when a building is on fire is super annoying. I fully believe it’s to make the game seem longer than it is or because the actress who did the motion capture can’t run (I think it’s the later, because the couple times she runs, it look weird).
The writing is also pretty bad for a game which is story driven.
For me it was definitely Overlord. I started going as quickly as I could the closer I got to the end of the game; it just became such a damn chore.
I also kind of got tired of Rise of Tomb Raider close to end; I actually ignored all the hidden things and tombs and whatnot and only focused on the main quest.
