Superintelligence - 5/10 - it was a good movie to fall asleep to, not one of Melissa Mcarthy’s best work.
Tenet - 4/10 and that was for the first hour - then I turned it off. . . It makes no sense at all, the story is weak, the concept fell flat, I enjoyed most of his other movies. But this wasn’t that madness that made sense, it just doesn’t have a story - I think the most important line in the movie is when they “explain” the concept = aka don’t try to understand it.
The dialogue was terrible, the acting bugged me. Overall it was his worst
We watched Tenet last night. I really struggled to get into it but the end was not so bad. My wife and I both called some plot lines from early on, so there was no WOW moments.
I do think Nolan tried a little too hard here, yet I still enjoyed it overall.
Movie that I watched on the weekend Hunter Killer. Its a older movie that I never saw before and OMG how did I not watch this movie when it came out. Some parts are meh but the Sub parts was cool.
Maybe im just a sucker for Gerard Butler >< Man crush
Remembered that I have a Prime Video subscription so watched a couple of serious movies released a few months ago from there yesterday while keeping track of the guys driving around for 10-hours.
The Torture Report: Adam Driver, Annette Bening. Based on the story of the US Senate report into the use of “Enhanced Interrogation Techniques” following the 9/11 attacks.
A bit of a slow burn, but really good performances from Driver especially.
7.5/10
Sound of Metal: story about a heavy metal drummer who loses his hearing and how he struggles to cope with becoming deaf.
Riz Ahmed is brilliant as Ruben, the drummer. Olivia Cooke and Paul Raci give solid support. The sound production is an actor in its own right too. Watch it with closed captions turned on to experience it like a Deaf person would.
8/10
Neither of these are easy or light family viewing, but if you’re in the mood for something a little more cerebral and thought provoking, both are highly Reddommended™
IMDB (and Metacritic and even Steam for that matter) should just lock new listings for reviews from the public for at least a month after they release. Only bother with the professional media reviews for the first month so that the bigoted incel racist idiots can move on to the next mindless thing that attracts their attention.
I still think the entertainment value provided here compares to a lot of today’s calibre movies. Despite not having any CGI, sex, nudity, violence, blood or gore, swearing or blasphemy and so on.
I find it extremely interesting that movies of such production quality have so much to offer without a need to include such things that almost every movie these days has to include.
That’s pretty entertaining! I’ve never been one for such movies, but before I knew it I was 25 minutes into the movie. I’ll probably finish it at some point.
