I’m genuinely amazed at just how small it is - how’d they fit all the bits inside a case that’s not much more than two stacked controllers big? And while I know the claims are that cooling won’t be an issue, I’m wondering if our hot summer climate might make a mockery of that claim…
i think that collossal fan on the side alleviates that issue
Cheaper than a switch until it lands on SA shores. The S will probably be around R8000-R10000 retail.
Who’s to say Sony won’t match that price with their digital version. They’ve sold consoles at a loss before they can do it again.
Either way if I do get a new Xbox it will be the S. The X is pointless for me since I don’t have a 4K TV and will only play game pass titles. PS5 I’ll get the disc based one so I can still play my physical PS4 games and get certain games like Demon’s Souls physical.
But before I buy either of those I’ll wait and see what Nintendo does. If there is a Switch Pro coming I want that.
Remember the discless PS5 will be the same “full fat” PS5. So the same powerful specs. The S version of the new XBOX will be severely underspecced compared to the X. Still, that’s a great price for the S…
I agree on the pricing but we’ll have to wait and see how that changes for our market. Look at what’s happening with local RTX3000 GPU pre-order prices. It might be placeholders and what not but we are getting robbed when pre-ordering locally.
I don’t think Sony is too worried with MS pricing. They still lead the exclusive race and there are rumors of lots of unannounced first party PS5 exclusives coming.
In terms of value for money for the average “entry-level gamer” I think MS is going to dominate with the combination of the Series S and Game Pass though.
It looks like pre-orders will start a week from today on the 22nd of September.
SA pre-orders now live:

I struggled like crazy to buy one this morning. They had issues at Takealot and since I were buying with ebucks that’s where I had to buy from. But it finally worked later on.
So yay! I got my pre-order!
im holding out for a bundle. probably during next year
Congrats dude!!! Glad you got the console pre-ordered. Did you get anything else with it?
This will be the first Xbox console launch I’m not getting it at launch. All my money is going into the wedding, so no funds for it right now. I’ll get one next year and hope the stock levels calmed down by then. If I had the means I would’ve pre-ordered today as well
Thanks Hammer. Currently just the console but thinking of maybe getting an extra controller for my wife. Will wait a bit before doing that though. Will also wait until closer to launch to spoil myself with a next gen game. It will depend on what’s on Game Pass at that point in time. Hoping to get Cyberpunk.
Hey and the wedding is your big thing this year. I hope someone gets it for you as a wedding present. Hopefully your wife-to-be has some really rich family.
its just sad regarding the pricing
2017 - rand/dollar exchange 14.1352 Xbox one x $499 = (7055.00 was the direct conversion cost) R7500 is what we paid
2020 - rand/dollar exchange (aug 31) 16.72 Xbox Series x $499 = should be R8500 (8 333,92 to be precise) instead we get schnaaid R11999
Seems like a dollar isn’t a dollar anymore. I guess there are other factors at play now. One minor impact is the VAT that has increased by 1% since 2017.
Ad volarem tax
Dude, it’s hard to feel too badly for you as a PC gamer, when you looks at the GFX conversion rates right now… Getting anything in ZA is horribly expensive
I concur. I’m looking at revamping my old desktop PC, but even a mid-range PC build (B450 mobo, Ryzen 5 3600, chassis, 32GB RAM, 2x SSD) without a GPU and PSU (both of which I have) ends up at an eye watering R14k! I paid way less for an upper-mid spec full PC around 5 years ago.
EDIT: On topic, I guess I should just shelve the idea of revamping my PC and grab an XSX!
