Xbox Series X/S

Getting my Series S next week. Got it as part of Vodacom contract upgrade. I don’t need a new phone so I decided to go for a sim only deal and take the Series S as and added accessory.

Great stuff @Wlad!

Yeah I can’t wait. Not sure what I’ll play first yet but I’m sure I’ll find something. Maybe Torchlight III for the club.

Being the absolute PS fanboi that I am, I feel like I’m betraying my overlords. /s

I went to pick up my console yesterday and played a little after work last night and some more this morning. I’m really impressed with this little beast. The games load in very quick and quick resume is the best feature ever. It’s so convenient just switching between games that are already running. Playing Torchlight 3, Forza Horizon 4 and Destiny 2 mostly for now but I’m also going to grab FF XII when it comes to gamepass tomorrow.

I see they will cost $99 and will be out on 28 May. My birthday is 26 May, nudge nudge, wink wink

As with all fancy new tech, it’s instantly out of stock already. Well the pre-order is out of stock.

Saw this on Facebook so don’t know if true.

It would suck if Witcher gets the enhancements right after it gets removed from game pass. I’d definitely play it again if it gets features my PC version doesn’t have but I don’t really wanna buy it for the fourth time.

Greedfall will be welcomed as well. Still wanna play the game but it feels sluggish in console and is not too well optimised on pc.

Does FPS Boost actually deliver on it’s promise?

@Wlad will tell you more.

I haven’t tried it myself but would have loved to play some of that older titles in 60fps.

So far definitely yes. I don’t have the fancy tools DF use to analyse what the actual framerate is at any given moment but I’ve played Sleeping Dogs, Watch Dogs and AC Unity before and after them getting the boost and it is immediately noticeable. I’m actually actively playing AC Unity because it just feels so smooth now; finally the game can be run as was intended on a console.

How do you make the decision between getting the Series X or S version? What would some of the questions be that you would ask yourself, should you be wanting to get one of these consoles?

Easy. What TV do you have? 4K = X. 1080p = S.

Is that seriously the only determining factor?

The major things are processing power. S has in theory one quarter of the power, and thus prefers one quarter of the resolution. It also has no disc drive so playing your older disc games will not be possible. Finally, price and budget is probably the major issue right now as well…

I guess not, but that depends on you. It’s definitely the easiest way to make a decision. The S can output to 4K but most games target 1080p so if you have a 4K TV it will be upscaled and not native 4K. The X targets 4K. The only other major difference is with backwards compatibility: The X runs One X enhanced versions of games and the S runs One S versions. Oh and also the disc drive or lack thereof. X has a disc drive, S is digital only. I love my S, but I would have liked a disc drive so I could get cheap(er) secondhand games.
