Anime Thread

Skipping through the first couple of episodes of Toni Kawa and I only caught on now.

The person who helped with the marriage registration form

It’s Klaus! From Hayate the Combat Butler. This would mean that Toni Kawa takes place in the same universe and shortly after Nagi forfeits her massive fortune and chose her own path.

So I set up Crunchyrole on my PS4 and, well, the ads are quite egregious.

PC is the best since you can just use ad-blockers or find the m3u link and use that directly. Since you are on console you options are to use a pi-hole, setup some kind of ad-blocking DNS setup on your router or get a subscription.

You can also browse through /r/anime and /r/crunchyroll for guest pass threads.

I know I am also limited to 480p resolution on both, but it looks marginally worse on the TV as well. But we’ll see what happens.

The CR apps and the support for them is terrible. If the website wasn’t as bad as it is, it would probably be easier to watch from there.

HUGE EDIT 4: EDIT HOT

SK∞: Really fun skateboarding show. The character design is ridiculous and that adds a lot of charm to it.

Kai Byoui Ramune: Another ridiculous show. A spiritual doctor goes around fixing aliments which are not always as they seem. I really had fun watching it and I’ll continue to do so.

Horimiya: A refreshing romance series without the lame harem elements and love polygons. 100/10.

Beastars 2nd Season: Kujira! Kujira! Kujira!

Ore dake Haireru Kakushi Dungeon (The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter): A cheese ecchi harem series. I’ll watch it like my life depends on it though.

Back Arrow: Felt a little like Gundam Age x Bakugan.

HUGE EDIT 3: EDITING WITH A VENGENCE

Soukou Musume Senki (LBX Girls): A spin off of the Danball Senki series. I kept on thinking that it was some kind of hybrid of Cross Ange and Symphogear. It’s generic as hell but I like my mecha and there hasn’t been much of it lately.

Hortensia Saga: Fairly standard fantasy mobile game anime. Story seems mediocre. I’ll give it a few more episodes.

Tenchi Souzou Design-bu: The show is probably(?) aimed at a younger audience but it didn’t stop me from having a good laugh.

Jaku-Chara Tomozaki-kun: 3D Real Girl x GAMERS! I can see where this is going from episode 1 but I’ll stick around because it seems interesting and I am a sucker for romance.

Kumo Desu ga, Nani ka? (So I am a spider?): Arifuta but with a spider.

HUGE EDIT 2: Edit Harder.

Urasekai Picnic - Heavily inspired by the novel “Roadside Picnic” by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky (the same novel that inspired the STALKER Game series). First episode was interesting with a slight lack of detail but I assume more will be presented as the show progresses. Skip the OP if you don’t want spoilers

Last Dungeon - This show surprised me, The first episode was really funny, I enjoyed it quite a lot despite it’s apperace.

Gekidol - It felt very much like Shoujo☆Kageki Revue Starlight. Initial episode was a little slow and the OVA was interesting but also strange. The OVA following episode 1 is a preview of the full OVA which will be released alongside the BD’s release.

HUGE EDIT: I forgot that Skate Leading Stars started already. Attack on Titan Final Season started last season and Armor Shop for Ladies & Gentlemen Season 2 started on Jan 2

Skate leading Stars is decent if you liked Ballroom e Youkoso or Yuri on Ice.

Attack on Titan is self explanatory. People are somewhat unhappy about MAPAA doing the show. Personally I enjoy it regardless of the changes in animation, since it’s got a more “human” feel to it.

Armor Shop for Ladies & Gentlemen is hit and miss. It’s a short (~4min) series which is about selling “sexy” armor.

New Year! New Season! Winter 2021

Winter 2021 is basically attack of the sequels with 15+ of them. After a episode or two I’ll update the list.

Gekidol
Hortensia Saga

There are so many idol anime coming out this season. Going by how it’s airing now in Winter, there will be a push for live shows come spring. Personally I am not a massive fun unless it’s something like The IDOLM@STER.

Yeah cannot wait for this, reading the manga and it is really good.

What the fuck Crunchyroll?? This is Ex-Arm btw.

giphy

wtf is going on there.

Anime is really starting to roll out now, can’t wait for more episodes.
Currently watching:
Ore dake Haireru Kakushi Dungeon
Kumo Desu ga, Nani ka?
Tatoeba Last Dungeon Mae no Mura no Shounen ga Joban no Machi de Kurasu Youna Monogatari

I’m watching way too much to type out.

Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu seems to be a very good show. Episode 1 is a little… interesting in some aspects. Kemono Jihen also seems good.

ah, i read the synopsis for those two, a bit on the fence still of weather I should watch them or not, might give them a shot when I have finished watching the other three.

I think it’s safe to say that I found my top shows of the season.

Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu is absolutely brilliant. It’s your standard Isekai but instead of the main character being a T-1000 out of the gates, it’s a story about life and growing up. It’s only 3 episodes in and it’s been a perfect adaptation so far.

Horimiya: I loved the OVA series and so far it’s been nothing but impressive. The chemistry between Horia and Miyamura is magical. This is a no-fuss, no-harem love story where the lead characters aren’t a Tsundere or a Yankie.

Finally it’s a toss up between Yuru Camp△ Season 2 and 5-toubun no Hanayome ∬.

Yuru Camp is relaxing and fun as ever, while 5-toubun is dishing out the drama and mystery of who’s the right sister from the get go.

Honourable Mentions:

Wonder Egg Priority is as beautiful as it is strange.

Kaifuku Jutsushi no Yarinaoshi (Redo of healer), you might have heard about this one. As controversial as it is, it’s entertaining. WARNING BEFORE YOU WATCH: This series is basically a Hentai without the full on nudity it also has extremely graphic scenes of sexual violence on both men and women

Kai Byoui Ramune feels like a wacky version of Mushishi.

Ore dake Haireru Kakushi Dungeon is another ecchi fantasy series, it’s so stupid but I love it to bits.

I’m watching a whole bunch of other stuff too but these stood out the most for me so far.

watched the first episode of that so far, not bad at all, I for one am a big fan of OP protags, so currently really liking this:
Tatoeba Last Dungeon Mae no Mura no Shounen ga Joban no Machi de Kurasu Youna Monogatari

Also from watching the manga, I can’t wait for more episodes of these two:
Kumo Desu ga, Nani ka?
Ore dake Haireru Kakushi Dungeon

Although I may be remembering it wrong, but I don’t remember the focus being so much on the other classmates in the manga of “Kumo Desu ga, Nani ka?” I would like the anime to be more focused on the spider, as the best battles are hers.

Rudi (in Jobless) is going to get a lot more OP (a little later), right now they just building up his character, main characters and supporting cast.

From what I remember, Kuno Desu ga is adapted from the LN where there’s more mention of the classmates and their actions. The manga mostly focuses on Kumoko herself more than anything else.

ahhh ok that makes sense.

Yeah could already see that Rudi is going to get quite powerfull. anime this season has been good but I need moar

Any cool manga recommendations I am open to all types of manga

I prefer light novels to manga but I can recommend you some, of the ones I have read and enjoyed a lot there is:

Blade of the Immortal
Oyasumi Punpun
A Silent Voice
2001 Nights
3-gatsu no Lion

So if the only anime I have seen is Ghost in the Machine, Battletech, and Akira, and if I really enjoyed them, what else can you boffins recommend to me? I know its kind of lame but I prefer dubbed to having to read subtitles.

Perfect Blue

There’s quite a few films and series which have similar themes to Ghost in the Shell:

Perfect Blue
Time of Eve
Death Parade
Paprika
Memories (is currently not dubbed but it’s getting a dub after 26 years, it should be out later this year)
From the New World
Psycho-Pass

There is also the Ghost in the shell TV series. Which is:
Stand Alone Complex
Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG
Arise: Alternative Architecture
SAC_2045

Akira is fairly unique and was more of a showcase of animation. Regardless, there are some shows/films which feature seriously overpowered protagonists and some graphic violence in them.

Mob Psycho 100 & One Punch Man (Primarily a comedies/parodies more than anything else)
Ajin: Demi Human
Devilman Ctybaby
Blade of the Immortal (The ONA from Amazon).
Parasyte: The Maxim

By Battletech, do you perhaps mean Robotech? If that is so.

Robotech was the amalgamation of 3 different series; Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross and Genesis Climber MOSPEADA. All 3 of them are great series but they have aged a lot and are very niche.

Otherwise I can recommend some Mecha which is similar.

Mobile Suit Gundam 00 and Iron Blooded Orphans
Code Geass
Tengen Toppa Guaren Lagann (The series is primarily comical in nature but it’s one big reference to the super robot genre)
Full Metal Panic
