That Conan video was amazing!
Not to detract from this, but rather to add to the discussion for everyone else:
Don’t wait until the ship is sinking to start interviewing!
- Interviewing is a skill. Keep it sharp by practicing it! Never mind CV writing… No one is actually any good at it, yet is crucial to getting your foot in the door of the interview room.
- You won’t know what keeps you from getting the offer without interviewing - perhaps there’s a skill gap that you can easily close in 6 months. Do you want to find that out when you’re desperate to jump, or when you’ve got time to skill up?
- It’s much easier to have perspective when you don’t have pressure. If you need to get out, you’re more likely to take anything that comes along. If you’re interviewing while things are going reasonably well, you’re more inclined to only jump at the exceptional opportunities.
- It’s easy networking!
- It’s an opportunity to set your price. Because of how much I love working for my company, I set my salary expectations at my current salary +10% bump, plus another 15% happiness factor. So far I’ve been surprised that one or two companies actually considered that number, which gives me valuable info as to my worth. Useful to know for when I actually do need to move on someday.
I try to go on an interview at least once a year. Been with my current company for 6 years this week, but I don’t need to wonder if the grass is greener on the other side. It’s not. The grass is maybe just slightly better paid.
Hey ho!
Little hey little ho.
Morning people of the palace
Hold thumbs, might leave the office early to drop off a monitor in Montague Gardens for repairs.
My current mood is…
Good morning everyone.

Howzit you big beautiful fuckers
Hope you all are having an awesome year so far. Have some news on my side. Few weeks ago a friend of mine whose house i normally housesit asked me if I’d come work for him in IT. Told him I don’t have any certs and the stuff i know are mostly from building pcs or trying to fix my own. He said that’s exactly the reason why he wants me to work for him as the company will pay for courses and I’d just have to work it back in months or years.
Now here’s the kicker.
Been looking and planning to relocate to CPT since the missis is there and its just an all around better place to be but if i take this IT job it means for the next x amount of months/years I’m going to be in the Free State but ultimately working to and for a better future. A while back the CEO of my current job said there’s plans on opening a branch in CPT and that I’ll be able to relocate there once its open but that news I heard I Jan and haven’t gotten anything new since.
Spoken to a few of my friends and they all said that before i do anything I should make sure i get everything in writing and at the end of the day I’m not going to get an opportunity like this again. The missis is all for this and said that I should think about my future first especially now and that she’s fine with the idea of it being a while before we get to live together as long as I take the job and gain every knowledge I possibly can so that at the end of the day i can do anything and work from anywhere.
So what I want to hear is what do you guys think? Cool thing is the missis is in HR and said that before I sign anything I should first send her the docs so on that side I’m covered.
Completely agree with your friends. You have been looking for a gap, a break to get you more opportunities for a long while now, remembering your posts. This could be it.

Does anyone still use RSS feeds?
Yes, I use Feedly daily and have since Google cancelled their thing.
It’s my main way of browsing the web.
Had a couple set up for firmware updates and whatnot… Just reinstalled so I gotta do that again.
Thanks for the reminder lol
