Elden Ring - Souls meets Ice & Fire

I want to wish all of you who soon will be taking on the mantle of the Tarnished and are venturing into the Lands Between, well on your quest. May you vanquish all evil, recover the Great Runes, restore the Elden Ring, and take your rightful seat as Elden Lord.

Importantly, may you all remember to sustain yourselves properly in this realm whilst you wrestle with demons in that world. A handy squire or handmaiden by your side to deliver regular hydration and sustenance boosts, and to offer regular rest and repose to ensure your IRL health stats stay high may be required.

When you emerge from the Lands Between, I look forward to your words of high and low review.

Ok, my brother-in-law just picked up my nephews. Time to teleport myself and my Xbox to Australia/New Zealand.

It does have stealth. One of the reviews I watched showed it. Actually, I think that extended trailer also mentioned stealth if I remember correctly.

User reviews for pc report an unoptimised mess. Glad my wallet matrix dodged this fucker

I had no idea, when I was pressing buttons to figure what did what, I was blown away when I found out I could crouch and jump.

Digital Foundryā€™s look at performance across PS, XB and PC. Seems there are a handful of issues, but nothing game breaking for most. May the performance patching be quick and soon if you do have any hiccups.

Any PC players (other than @Shrike who is still waiting for his download to finish  ) able to give some feedback on PC performance yet?

Steam reviews (thereā€™s over 12000 of them already!) are sitting at 59% Mixed at the moment and the majority of negatives that I glanced through point towards issues of optimisation. Frame rate dips and stutters, freezes in the middle of boss fights, crashes, and a lack of support for ultrawide monitors seem to be the most common.

There are still a ton of positive reviews too, so hopefully the issues are few and far between, and none of you are sufferers. :crossed_fingers:

90+ percent from the reviewers - 59% from the reviews on Steam. Seems to be the norm for major releases these days. And itā€™s often the performance issues that are the cause.

Yeah, at least consoles generally have a flat performance across the platform, I do not miss things like that about PC gaming.

I tried for a bit and it seems okay to me so far. A little bit of stuttering here and there but nothing major yet. Itā€™s mostly over 50fps as far as I can see.

I play on a pretty medium to low spec PC so I as long as there are graphics sliders I can pull down before a boss fight, I will be ok. I get quite used to pumping the sliders to full to take a good look at a beautiful open world and then down again for the big action.

Frame stutters and lag with a 3080 at 1080p barely breaking 60fps is a bietjie erg.

I have noticed some texture and or asset pop-in while exploring the world, but that doesnā€™t seem to be related to distance rendering as it has happened quite close up. Mostly just instances like plants and grass.

Iā€™ve played four hours on pc I get micro stutters tried everything to get rid of it. only certain places.
Its so hard though this game. jeez.

Iā€™m already at the rage quit point. Tried 4 diffferent classes. I canā€™t get anywhere. I find lots of bonfires and new areas but get wrecked everywhere I go. Done for today. Brilliant game though.

Thanks for halting the temptations

Haha, donā€™t let me dissuade you man. Despite my love for these games I am really terrible at them. The only way I made it through most difficult bosses was by summoning people. Itā€™s just that Iā€™m having no luck summons in Elden Ring, itā€™s launch day so there will be online issues for sure. And Əā€™m struggling to find a starting class that I feel I can stick with and build upon. I usually tend to play warrior / knight classes in these games but Iā€™m trying out a mage class now. I did initially start with 2 different melee classes but both of them donā€™t really use shields and Iā€™m not great at rolling in combat. If I donā€™t come right with mage Iā€™m just gonna go back to traditional strenght based knight with a shield and sword.

Right there with you. Iā€™m fascinated by the premise and lore of the game - and the previous Souls, FromSoftware, and Souls-like games - but playing it? Nah, not for me. Iā€™ll even spend hours watching other play. But I just canā€™t. All power to those that can and do though - I have much respect for your tolerance for self-inflicted pain

I play games for fun and to relax. And sure, I like a bit of a challenge every now and then. But the level of intensity, focus, and skill needed for something like thisā€¦? Nope.
