[GameClub 18] Hades

Is it as a point where it’s becoming too easy for you now?

Not easy no, I think I just figured out a strategy that works. I use the claws with a specific order of keepsakes and pile on boons as early as I can.

EDIT: I guess it’s my “Dark Souls”. I could never get into the Souls games and always struggled to get past the first hour odd of the games. Even though Hades is a difficult game, I got into the flow of things and managed to figure out its systems and leverage them.

Almost done! Now sitting at 6 successful attempts in a row, with 8 successes in total. 2 more to go and I can finally “finish” the game.

Seems you may be the only one…

Thanks! I’m glad to see that once you get a hang on the systems and mechanics at play and figure out a tactic with weapons, talents and boons that work for you, then you can consistently make it past Hades. My last 8 runs were all successful, landing me a “Current Streak” of 8 successes. I’m sure I can continue that streak if I put more time into the game, but after 34 hours I’ve had enough of it for now.

I found the same thing in my playthrough. The game doesn’t necessarily get easier, but you just start learning the mechanics and how to maximise your chances better. The wins start stacking up pretty quickly.

I still have to get back to start my second run after completing the game and see how it goes. Trying to find the time.

I’ve repeatedly reached Hades and keep dying against his 2nd form. It was getting really frustrating. But then I noticed that I had completely missed the fact that I haven’t unlocked all the buffs in the mirror. I’ve only unlocked one section and not the others. So now I’ll hang onto the Cthonic keys to open up more sections. I’m sure it will help!

Remember that you can only run one side of each talent at a time, so no use unlocking them all. Just use a key to reset your points and spend it in the talents you find useful. What helped a ton was any boons that reduced damage. My strategy was:

  1. Go for Athena as the first boon. When entering Tartarus you either get a hammer or Athena boon immediately. I always got the option of either dash or attack deflect. Either works, but attack deflect with the claws has you almost perma-deflecting due to it’s fast attack speed.
  2. After finishing Tartarus, swap out to Aphrodite, if I didn’t get a boon from her during Tartarus already. Go for anything that inflicts Weakness. Attack or special usually works well, as you can constantly reduce enemy damage by 30% that way.
  3. Once I finish Asphodel, I swap to either Poseidon or Dionysus, as their boons for either pushing enemies away or inflicting drunkenness help balance out an offensive or defensive build.
  4. Whenever a Chaos gate opens, GO FOR IT! The boons you get from there really do help.
  5. In Asphodel, if you get the chance to visit Eurydice always go for the Pom Porridge. Instantly leveling 4 of your boons really makes you powerful quickly.
  6. Grab a call as soon as you can. Artemis’ call is especially powerful, as a fully charged God gauge can finish off the last phase of the Hydra in literally 1 hit. When reaching Hades, you can have a fully charged gauge at least once per phase of the fight, and they each deal about 20% damage to his health.
  7. Finish all the Satyr tunnels in Styx. Save your coin for the end and buy all the Poms and boons on offer by Charon.
  8. Other than those, I just usually stacked onto boons that I got early in a run. Don’t just choose boons randomly - decide early on what stats you’re focusing on for the run and choose boons / weapon upgrades that build on those.

Aphrodite’s call can also do this and is also very powerful against other bosses in case you do not get Artemis boon.

For satyr tunnels, the dash boon from Poseidon is so much fun, especially if you get the added one where it creates a wave after someone gets knocked into a wall.

Yeah, any knock damage is great there. But once you get to Hades, it’s kinda useless. So I always prioritise my build around boons that will be useful in the final battle, as I can make it through the rest of the game relatively unscathed by now.

I’m kind of addicted to this game now. 42 escape attempts, most of which end at Hades, and among them 6 successful escapes. I’m still in awe of how good the game is.

The shield (Zeus aspect) is my MVP weapon (4 of my escapes), I love the Spear (haven’t finished a run with it yet though), I’m okay with Stygius (1 escape with the hidden aspect, wow that thing is bonkers), and somehow I eeked out an escape with the Bow that I really don’t like or feel comfortable with.

I’m an Ares + Athena/Zeus man, with a dash of Dionysus.

The above word vomit is me introducing myself to the club and wondering how I got to the Hades party this late :scream:

Also, is Orpheus amazing or what???

P.S. Never skip a Daedelus Hammer!

48 attempts. 11 escapes (with all the weapons… not all aspects though). Roll credits (just got to the end, family secret achieved).
