So I won’t get a greenhouse for Winter because I didn’t finish my high quality parsnips and Melons 
On the upside I’ve reached the end of the mines.

I have the same problem. I completely missed the quality crops thing.
I have 1 Parsnip and 3 Melons
hahaha see this is where my ocd came in, I actually almost went nuts not picking stuff on the day they where ready if the fortune teller didnt say it was a good day
I didn’t read that you need 5 of each quality item.

Yeah the knowledge of building multiple farms across multiple years do help out when replaying the game. I would hazard a guess and say almost no one gets it done in their first play through of Stardew Valley. The opening month is just so much madness that you won’t focus on getting everything ready.

Do things get better quality if you let them ripen longer? Or is it mostly a fortune thing?

Also note that fertilizer helps with overall quality of the crops. The normal fertilizer will help a lot already, and you also get quality fertilizer that greatly increases your chances of getting gold and even purple quality crop.

I did throw down some speed-gro that I got from my spring crop bundle for something… I can’t recall what… Haven’t seen any purples yet!

Dont worry about purple it takes a few years or some upgrades to get them. Also starfruit and anchient seeds are the ones you want to plant in your greenhouse. Speedgrow might let thing rippen one day early. I normally just go for quality. The water retaining ones are nice if you dont have sprinklers but its nothing major.
I have a few chest with 5 of each thing in the game so if anybody want it I can search for it and give it to them since the first two years just had fun exploring and getting to know the machanics.

On the wiki, it shows 5 gold parsnips, but then is says “Gold quality Spring Crops”… Do any spring crop work as long as it totals 5, or does it have to be parsnips?
