Congrats @oltman! Wowee you guys are quick.

For now I’m still focusing on finishing F1 2019.

So I tried my first Rookie Race earlier today. Finished where I stared in P9, despite being lapped by the leaders, so got a tiny bump in my safety rating score. Just stupidly slow in comparison to most of the others in my race. 5-6 seconds off the leaders pace.

Picked up 6 incident points - all of them for off track errors. And all due to under steering. I’m more convinced than ever that part of my problems are wheel related - I have the same issues with racing in F1. Will have to spend some time trying to understand the iRacing wheel settings and see if I can tweak things a little maybe.

On the subject of tweaking things… are car setup options for these Rookie races locked, or am I doing something wrong? Why I did some Test drives I could access the Garage and change some stuff - dropped tyre pressures a bit and that seemed to give me a little more grip. But when I tried to do the same in the Race the options weren’t available.

Any suggestions on finding a little more speed without me making the already poor cornering problem worse?

You didn’t realise it @GregRedd but I spectated the last 6 laps of your race. I’m sneaky like that.

I don’t know how the other people are so fast to be honest. I get similar times to you. Even on a straight line I see the people just drive past.

So I don’t really have advice for you sorry. Still learning the ropes myself.

@Nosferatie is one of the crazy fast guys. When I see him race again I will spectate again and watch what he’s doing… Hmmm. Actually you can spectate any race so I may do that at any time and see what the leaders are doing.

Didn’t even know that was a thing :grinning: Was trying to work out the Replay controls and how to save a replay but gave up. To be honest, I’m finding the whole interface and controls and settings a little weird and very dated. Maybe it’s just me, but I think the whole UI could definitely do with a little modernization.

Urgh I’m so jealous of you guys getting in practice. I just want to get going again. I’ll do some races this week and try to get my C license. Been having a tough time in the Mazda races against people with the same iRating as me.

But at least I can get my times down to about constant 54:900 on the Jefferson course. Which puts me in the top bunch normally. But damn the course is not good for overtaking.

What’s the next course in the Mazda Cup?

Crikey that’s fast. My fastest is just under 57:000 now and that was while testing.

Hey Greg. Sorry if I am asking the obvious questions here, but its my IT support brain kicking in. And please, I am no expert, just trying to help you get set up.

  • when you are in the game, turn your wheel 90 degrees to either side. Is the wheel in game an exact match for where your wheel is turning?
  • if not, then calibrate your wheel in the game.

Thanks master

Thanks for this suggestion. I did do the calibration thing the first time I did a test drive but definitely think I need to go back in and make some adjustments.

Is there a shortcut to access the wheel settings without having to reset the car to pits and the reset it again to get out each time?

@GregRedd, I found an amazing video:

Also, I had my first two races last night. First one went well, started 8th and finished 7th with just the one incident. Then came my second race and I started 8th again and most of the people in front of me all crash into each other so I move up very quickly by passing them, only to have the guys in front all crash into each other at the first corner.

This time unavoidable. So crash into the car in front of me and get 4 incident points just there and then. Suddenly I was last as I couldn’t go forward because the car I crashed into was right in front of me. Some people disconnected luckily.

But suddenly my brain decided to think about where I should brake. And suddenly I didn’t know how to drive anymore. I got so angry with myself. Struggled to keep the car on the road because even though I’ve driven around there so many times before this race I suddenly couldn’t figure out how to brake right anymore. Then with a couple of laps to go something clicked.

Suddenly I figured out how to handle iRacing and this car. I kept it slow just to finish everything but I feel much more confident now. Will try time trials again later today if I get time. But yes, just like with F1 2019 something finally clicked.

Any of you have an issue with me putting your iRacer names in the thread? Have found a stats banner tool that I’d like to post up to help keep track of everyone’s progress.

Congrats @Nosferatie!

And I have no problem with that @GregRedd
