iRacing - The Ultimate in Sim Racing

Stupid chicane. Haven’t had a race yet because I just can’t get through there quickly. Started making progress so will try again tonight.

For the Mazda cup, Lime Rock is fun, but man people drive like idiots. Don’t know when to give up a corner, try to overtake everywhere, even in the chicane.

The Radical is FUN! I love it! Oltman and I did our first official race together last night. Got positive SR and iRating for both races last night so I am happy.

IMSA is great but difficult. I haven’t had the guts to do Brazil this week. I will try on the weekend maybe. Would be interesting how the Porsche handles the elevation changes.

Wow I haven’t driven a single lap in iRacing for over 2 weeks now. I’ll be so rusty it won’t even be funny. But I’ll try put in some laps and races tomorrow and Friday evening.

Lol…while there is lots of truth to this, I’ve been mainly taking a break from racing games. Felt a bit burnt out, so before completely losing all interest, I rather spent time finishing RDR2, played some Outer Wilds and other games. So after this little pause, regular racing service will resume with more vigor and gusto!

Argh, was busy with time trials and then my internet got so bad that I got kicked off. Stupid Vodacom. Nobody likes them.

iRacing is still offline! Will quickly have to figure out how to test stuff.

Of the GTE cars I like the Ford GT 2017 the most, then the Porsche 911 RSR. The BMW is by far the worst for me.

And I love the open wheel cars. Wow, the F1 games can really learn from the physics of the McLaren Honda MP4-30 in iRacing. You can actually feel the grip!

And the Formula Renault cars drive amazingly well. Skip Barber looks like it can be fun.

I don’t know, these open wheel cars are a lot more fun to drive than the GTE cars that I tried.

edit

I see the F3 Championship is quite popular and I really like how the car drives.

Oh man, so many decisions! Will stop trying all the cars for now.

The Ferrari is so easy compared to the Porsche :frowning:

The Ferrari sounds terrible though. Can’t stand the noises coming out of that thing. Did you try the Ford? Drives really nicely.

Well peoples. We have to make a decision. End of the month I need to decide which series I’ll be racing in and also which GTE car I need to practice with.

So firstly the GTE car. @Nosferatie, @oltman, @DieGrootHammer, @GregRedd , @Deadlypinecone which one do you guys want to race in Le Mans?

Currently @Nosferatie is driving the Porsche and @oltman is driving the Ferrari and my preference is the Ford haha.

Secondly, since it’s still quite a while to go before that I’m thinking of picking either the F3 championship for my next series or Skip Barber. The F3 car just feels so amazing to drive and I fell in love with it at first drive. but Skip Barber is probably the best stepping stone.

Then I’ll also slowly be coming familiar with the GTE cars in preparation for our big plans.

What will you guys be racing in the next season?

I would need to try them all before I can decide.

If the Porsche feels similar to the one in Assetto Corsa Competizione, I probably won’t like it much

Personally I would be happy with either the Porsche 911 RSR or the Ford GT GTE. Both should be very popular choices and are both good cars and fairly easy to drive.

Regarding the next season, I loved the first race I did in the Skippie. It’s such a fun little car to drive, not easy but it does exactly what you expect it to do. For now I want to focus on the Skip Barber. I agree with you the open wheel cars in iRacing is super fun to drive.

From next year I’ll focus on multiclass races in GT3 and GTE cars.

You can test drive them here: https://testdrive.iracing.com/login.html

I’m not sure if that only works when iRacing is doing maintenance. I used it yesterday to try out all the cars.

I think I’d also prefer one of those two cars. It’s a shame that you have to buy cars because then we can’t really take them all out for a race or two.

That’s a good idea. The current season for the Mazda Cup ends end of the month. Will then drive a season of open wheel cars and then after that focus on GTE for Le Mans.

I want the one that stops me driving into walls and barriers all the time.

This one wont make you do it less, but you will survive more

I gave the Porsche a try yesterday. I do NOT like it very much. Under steer city! I also tried the BMW M8 which surprised me! It does not drive like the behemoth it is supposed to be. I could easily get behind one of those.

I love the Ferrari and am willing to try the Ford as well. Both of these are suggested for newcomers as they are more forgiving (according to some youtube channel, forgot who).

Long run I see myself doing more IMSA series but the cost of the tracks has put a stop on it for now. Interlagos is also kicking my butt! I was also wondering about some open wheel classes such as F3 or Skip Barber. But I dont know if I want to have multiple disciplines… This old brain of mine has only room for ONE type of racing at a time!

Wow to me it felt like a big boat when I tried it. Did not like it at all. Not even a little bit.

Yeah I think I’ll do open wheel next and then when that season ends I’ll try IMSA… but then it ends up being more tracks to buy. It’s really sucky that the game is so expensive.

Since you don’t like the Porsche, would you be okay going with the Ford? Just want to hear what @Nosferatie says.

How hard is IMSA? I can see you struggling and that has turned me off it to be honest.
