So I did a thing. This game is on Game Pass, and it’s currently installing on my PC. So there might be a future where I join in these races.
Do it. do it now: https://dirtrally2.com/clubs/club/245127
You can join the Australian event currently running and use it as a practice run for the next season (which I’m currently thinking about…)
I was so disappointed when I slid of the cliff by the bridge on Stage 9. I was actually somehow catching up to @aldyr after closing the gap by 40 seconds on the stage before and being about 20 seconds up on stage 9. Not to mention how much fun I was having throwing the Ford around the bends.
I’m almost done with setting up my Super Season of WEC-style DR2 rallys that will run from July through to the end of the year. Will drop all the details here shortly.
But, in the mean time…
Get your dirty selves over to @Entity’s newly created Dirt Rally 2.0 Club Spaceport S1 and take part in the weekly rally event in his Season 1 Championship that has just started!
Thanks. I’m keen for your new league as seeing that it’s cross platform, the platform you start playing on is the platform you stuck on…till the end, not even just the week. So I started on pc as a start thinking I’ll move over to PS4, my preferred platform, and continue from there… Errr, no no no 🧏 you are locked in to the one you start with. So I should be able to restart on PS4 only.
I’ve accepted a few applications for my league but please note that I don’t mind everyone joining to play but it’s our SpacePort league which is my stream Discord community so to be ‘credited’ for your position/ranking you need to be part of the Discord. Also all the full details are on there including prize info.
Sorry for the self promotion kind of thing but I don’t want to be unfair to my members, like @GregRedd, if I were to give away podium prizes to players not part of the Discord. Hope you all understand.
Phil is a dickhead. He tunes me, 1 left tightens. How can 1 tighten? To what number does it tighten?
With just 4 days left to the end of Round 6 of our current DR2 season…
…it’s time to start thinking about the next one, and getting ourselves set up for a full WRC-style rally season, but before I finalise things, I want your input because it might not be want everyone wants or is happy with. And you know I’m all for that democratic inclusivity and having happy racers.
Here’s the plan:
The MEW Modern Rally World Rally Series
I want to use all 12 of the rally venues included in the game, do shorter rallies (9 stages) than can comfortably be done in a single sitting, and run one every two weeks. And I want everyone to select (or be RNG allocated?) their Modern Rally R5 car at the beginning of the season and (try to) use the same car through the season.
That will give us DR2 events through until the end of the year. Visually, it looks like this:
And the little download symbol in the top left corners of Monaco, Wales, Germany, Sweden, Finland and Greece are the problem. Those venues are not included in the base game. They’re all DLC, and not everyone will have them.
Base game owners will be able to complete the 6 standard rallies, but will have to sit out some or all of the 6 DLC venues (which will really be a little like missing the events.)
The most cost effective way of getting the DLC in your game is either by buying the Game of the Year edition (if you don’t have the game yet), or by buying the Season Pass packs. (Seasons 1, 2, 3 and 4 if you only have base game, or just Seasons 3 and 4 if you have the Deluxe version).
I’ll drop store links into a separate post later, but suffice it to say that if you’re racing on PC things are cheap right now. If you’re on console things are a little more pricey, but still pretty affordable at the moment as well because both Xbox and PlayStation have discounts for DR2 available.
So, before I finalise the season, two quick polls:
- Do the Season WITH the DLC venues
- Do the Season WITHOUT the DLC venues

- Everyone chooses their own R5 car to use for the season
- We leave it to Random Number Geesus to select our R5 cars for the season for us

Obviously, this is open to anyone who wants to join in (especially new PC drivers who can get the complete GotY edition right now for just R98.70!) but specifically @aldyr @DarthMol @SlinX @Entity @czc @Deadlypinecone’s @oltman @Konck @DieGrootHammer who have all competed in earlier DR2 events.

I am keen for anything that gets more people playing. I lean towards hardcore masochist, which is the only reason I thought an RNG car would be fun and funny. Imagine you land up with a car that you have to learn on the fly, and deal with it’s quirks. That said, R5 cars are easy driving, forgiving rally cars. In case you’re wondering about being delt the slow car, here’s some performance data by a little known youtuber ranking the cars
There is some margin for error here, and some caveats. He’s using default setups, and my own testing contradicts his Pug 208 being the slowest, and in fact his Citroen variance (how consistent the time is, ie. how easy is the car to drive) is opposite to mine too. Handling characteristics is also never mentioned. And I suspect his times are slow, because his driving style doesn’t match that citroen.
@GregRedd A little suggestion and reasoning, use it or don’t. There’s precious little importance on tyre choice based on when the next repair station will be, ie. how long your tyres need to last. I’d like to see some spaced out repair stations, not because I want to see people total their cars, but because it’s a risk reward type of facet of the game, that I think is lost, when there is no fear of worn tyres. This isn’t hardcore damage, so wrecking is less of an issue. Missing a crucial bend and sliding wide to get stuck in some trees, because your tyres are worn is the type of thing, that is ingrained in Dirt Rally. It forces you decide whether it’s worth summoning your inner Colin, or to drive miss daisy to try to save your tyres, because you know you didn’t quite choose the best tyres for the 3rd stage. I think it helps to balance the more experienced drivers against the less experienced, that way they can’t just flatout the whole country.
Yep it was on my wishlist. I will buy it and join you guys. Hope my PC doesn’t suffer under VR 2.0
I saw your poll… I can’t comment because I have never played the game. I’ll leave it to everyone else to decide. But I’m chilled. I’m down for all the DLC tracks so I’ll vote that in. I think it’s cheap enough
Nice! I’m keen to pick up the DLC while it’s on sale. For those who have the DLC tracks, are they copies of the original Dirt Rally tracks?
I guess the year one pass it is.
Never driven a GT on gravel before and I must say, I’m pleasantly surprised. Making a overpowered GT car do ballet on gravel is something else.
It’s very much a case of steering with your right foot, when you nail a left-right transition on near full throttle, it feels magical.
I did a warm-up run on Chandler’s Creek in the BMW, 24th on the leaderboards, not bad
I’ll definitely end up spinning round during the actual rally event though, it’s inevitable.
Here it is… the final standings at the end of our first Dirt Rally 2.0 Season:
Despite taking max points in the final event in Monaro, @SlinX does not overhaul @aldyr who takes the gold trophy. @DarthMol “Mr Consistency” collects anther bronze medal for his collection. In the big picture, even though he didn’t post a time knowing that it would make a material difference, @oltman holds onto his P4 in the standings - which makes the crucial difference in the Champion of Champions scores.
In the second hlaf of the table, thanks too to @Konck, @Entity, @czc and @Deadlypinecone for taking part in Season 1 - I hope you all, and anyone else, is keen to get going with Season 2 soon!
On that subject the upcoming R5 Season Rallies should now be visible on the club page. There’s still one or two things I want to finalise, but that’ll happen tomorrow and I’ll confirm the cars that each driver will be allocated. In the meantime, anyone who wants to join in the dirty fun and games, and who is not yet a Club Member, please go here: MEW Dirt 2 Club, apply to join, and then ping me here for approval.
I’ve done the random draw for car allocations for our upcoming WRC Season, so that you can start to get your practice runs in. Again, the idea is that you try and use the same car for all 12 rally events in the season, just like a factory driver would. There is of course absolutely no obligation on anyone to do it this way - you can still use any R5 car you want, or even change for every new event if you’d like. But, do try at least.
As @aldyr suggested, and the reason I selected the R5 category for this season, is because the 6 cars are all reasonably equal in general performance over the variety of surfaces we’ll have, and they’re all fairly forgiving in terms of the actually driving.
The process for the draw was to put 3 of each of the cars (for a total of 18 possible cars in the field) into a random name spinner. I then allocated the cars in the order of the drivers finishing position in the last season, and added the names of the drivers who have indicated that they want to join our DR2 events. After each spin I removed that car from the pool and spun again for the next drivers’ car. (I did allocate all 18 cars, so if we do get any other drivers into the season, I’ll let them know which car they’re getting.
2020 MEW World Dirt Rally 2.0 Championship

Just two final quick notes about the upcoming season.
First, again based off a suggestion from @aldyr…
In an effort to make these shorter than normal (in terms of number of stages) events more interesting, I’m going to make adjustments to the default Service Stops that the game creates. Instead of a Medium service stop every third stage (at S1, S4 and S7), we will have one Medium Service Stop at Stage 1 (so that you can repair any issues you pick up during any Shakedown runs you do.) Then there’ll be only one other Service Stop available at Stage 6 - it will be a Long stop so you should have enough time to make most of your repairs during it.
Secondly, and only if I can do it without having to recreate the entire season…
I want to break up all the 9 stage events with two longer events in the Season. (But not Dirt Rally 24 stages long, don’t panic!) Round 4 - Wales and Round 10 - Australia will get 6 additional stages added to them, and an extra Service Stop too. Just for a bit of a change to the format.
I still need to finalise these changes in the season creator thing before the start of the first event, and will confirm they’re in as soon as I’ve done them. For those that want to get some practice for the first event in with their newly allocated car, here is Round #1’s route:
The season goes live at midnight on Saturday morning (4 July).
Awwhh yeah!
…
Guess I’d better find out how it drives…
