So I have more seeds going than I know what to do with. Its been cloudy out and the days are getting shorter, and I’d like to give them an indoor boost advantage.
I have a bit of money coming in from selling a few used things (hopefully) and want to get some T5 lights.
I’ll check ACDC next time I’m around there, but I am having a hell of a time finding somewhere that sells the fittings for a decent price, as well as trying to get my head wrapped around what works with what…
I think I’ve figured out the following:
- T5’s have several mounts, G5, G13, etc… AFAIK they are not compatible with each other, so if I get a G5 fitting, I need to use G5 bulbs…
- Most fittings need a starter/ballast, but usually they come built-in
Builder’s has bulbs, but they tell me they don’t have the fittings… every online hydro shop is either overpriced, out of stock, or doesn’t carry them.
The china shop… There’s lots of stuff there, but the fittings are mostly loose and don’t tell you what mounts they are…
Anyone have any advice? I’m looking to go cheap, want to be able to replace bulbs easily, and would like the fitting to be reflective.
I’m preparing my [redacted] plant for harvest right now.
Split the stem two days ago and I’m now flushing it. Will trim it in a couple of days before taking it out of the pot and hanging to dry and then cure.
Nice! You gonna share?
So I harvested my plant and yesterday I decided to make some butter. It was a long process but it looks to have come out alright, going to test it now properly by putting some on a muffin. I did a finger test and it tastes horrible, lol.
Picked my first spinach! I’m surprised at how quick they grow, uses a lot of water though.
Making a green smoothie with these.
We sow tubs of it - the amount you use vs their growth, we have learnt to have at least 4 tubs going at different levels of ready. that ends up giving us enough spinach for 3 people once a week. . . . But I love it so we keep it going.
Growth has seemed to have stalled with the cooler weather and shorter days. Hope I can keep these alive until spring! A couple are starting to die already
Move into a more sheltered sunny area if you have one, its the wind that gets to them
Hmm, I’m don’t think its the wind. Peppers like the wind as it strengthens the stalks. The two seedlings that are busy dying off got overwatered somehow. Might be a leak in the roof over my stoep…
Still, I might move them into my greenhouse.
Meant in the mornings and late evenings, it can get too cold in winter for the plants
Looks like it. Definitelty chinese, closely related at the very least.
Good because it started growing in my ‘composting’ pot and I decided to see what it would end up as.
As you can see the pot is quite empty.
I have a similar looking plant that perma dies(I am the worst)
Same flowers but have not seen anything grown yet.
But like I said, the next season I will be putting a bit more effort into my garden.
What are they all?
Habaneros, Fresno, …?
From top left clockwise:
Aji pineapple, rajah, seranno, habanero, yellow habanero, primo 7-pot x lemon drop (cross)
The aji’s are sweet and citrusey, but I don’t really taste pineapple. I’m looking forward to trying the primo x lemon drop. Looks like a good pod so hopefully the seeds will be good to replant, as I’m all out of those seeds.
Its one thing I want to try, red peppers - the sweet kind not burning my mouth to death. But I am the only one who really eats them at home so its a waste to plant
