Star Citizen

Alpha 3.6 is now in wave 1 PTU. Here are the patch notes:

Along with it, we get a new launcher version that finally unifies Live and PTU, so no more need to switch between different launchers! More info here:

Beta currently scheduled for Q2 next year, if all goes according to plan.

I’ve finally gotten into the 3.6 PTU. Here is a quick peek at one of the newly revamped rest stop station exteriors.

A small design and fab company in Scotland has started work on a licenced Star Citizen model kit. Bit pricey for my taste; I’d rather scratch build models myself, but cool nonetheless.

More rest stop goodness.

By the way, if you want to give 3.6 a spin before release, the PTU is now open to all backers.

I’ll wait, I guess since it’s open to all backers it means that 3.6 live will be sometime this week or next week?

Possibly. It won’t be much longer, but there are a few bugs that still need fixing.

A quick peek at the new law and criminality system.

I love that shake as you drop out of warp, or whatever you call it. So were they scanning you? or you scanning them?

You spotted that eh? Both actually. They were scanning me, but I decided to try out the scanning feature myself as I have never done so up close. It gives you lots of information about the ship, apparently even about cargo if there is any aboard.

It was also cool how he scanned you, said you can go, and then ‘dropped’ out on his way. Like he flew downwards like that  Did he have two combat craft flanking him? In case you don’t stop or something. I saw the 3. Then again, his ship seemed quite beefy on its own.

Jip, this looked like a UEE patrol as opposed to just local security. It was a Valkyrie escorted by two Cutlasses. They expect you stop to perform the scan; if you refuse to comply, you get a warning or two, and then (so I’ve been told) they assume you’re trying to flee and may pursue and open fire. You get a crimestat in that case, I believe.

Alpha 3.6 is LIVE for all backers! Lots of info to get through, so sit tight.

Here is a very handy overview and feature summary page:

The official patch notes page doesn’t seem to be up yet, but here they are as posted on Spectrum:

Here are some of the devs sharing their thoughts on the new features.

Also, a quick clip of the reworked Kruger snub craft.

And last but not least, they even threw in a little surprise: This here bad boy is going straight to live with 3.6.

Enjoy!

Just a few random screenshots. They seem to have improved LOD’s considerably in 3.6. Everything looks much sharper from a distance.

I did a bit of exploration outside the Lorville city gates in my trusty Cyclone. Truly impressive location, this.

I had a quick glance ahead at the roadmap for 3.7 (targeted for release end of Q3, so Sept if all goes to plan). It was recently updated, and while a lot of features were rescheduled, CIG snuck a few things in there which I think will make this a very interesting patch indeed. Let me give you the highlights:

These are some significant additions in my view. Caves, FPS mining, harvestables, and a personal inventory, add a whole lot of interesting non-combat gameplay. Ship rentals will be a great opportunity to try a ship you don’t own without earning hundreds of thousands of UEC to buy it, only to lose it again in the next patch. Mission sharing is a biggie for me; I’ve been itching for a way to share this kind of gameplay with friends, and now it should be possible for players to share both mission objectives and rewards with each other.

Hopefully there will be a free-fly again soon so y’all can try these features out one 3.7 drops.
