Wow @Sweepslag, no mentions of 3.8?
It’s live. Since Saturday.
I’m downloading now.
@Sweepslag has been busy and in the 3.8 PTU. I watched a string of 7/8 clips on his YT Channel just yesterday. Maybe he’s been waiting for 3.8 Live to give us the low down on the update?
Sorry guys. I’m on vacation, and truth be told, I wanted to step away from the forum for a bit.
I’ll continue to play and upload videos from time to time, but I might not be here as often to talk about it. I’m sure you can fill in for me though. See you in the verse.
It’s the podcast… It’s cursed!
Whenever someone comes on the podcast, they go all inactive soon thereafter!
Not gonna lie but this is really something I can get into looks awesome
Merry Christmas, Citizens.
Oh my! OH MY!!!
That’s a right old Christmas Day up yours to all those naysayers bleating endlessly about CIG not making any progress on Squadron 42. Love it.
Guess he is waiting on the Carrack
This is me, but not a teenager.
Aside from the Carrack news, Digital Foundry has published the first of a series of videos about Star Citizen’s tech.
In this video, we have exclusive access to the UK studio at Wilmslow, and we’re able to take you behind the scenes in how world scaling works and how star systems are rendered… and all of this is just the beginning of our journey behind the scenes.
Here’s the second part of DF’s deep dive look at the technology behind the creation of Star Citizen. This time the focus is on the micro level details.
Both of these are really excellent videos. Alex Battaglia’s clear explanations behind some of the more complex techniques being used in SC make them a lot more understandable and interesting, even to non-tech folk like me.
Just got an e-mail about Squadron 42, but I can’t tell what’s new and what’s been covered already. They feature the visual teaser again and such…
Anything interesting happening that we should take note of?
Some pretty neat flying here:
The S42 Roadmap has been pretty stagnant for the past few months.
There was/is some speculation that they were not updating it publicly due to the ongoing Crytek case. The one game with two parts versus two separate games was one of the few remaining issues still being contested. Now that a settlement in the case has been reached, I guess we’ll find out if that’s true in a couple of weeks when it gets finalized.
The overly pessimistic crowd are suggesting that CIG are in development hell and can’t get what they planned for the game to work. All they’re doing now is dragging things out for as long as possible before announcing another major delay, or even cancelling it.
The overly optimistic crowd are saying that things are all peaches and cream, and the reason that the Roadmap is not being updated is because CIG want to make a big “Surprise! It’s done! Go play it!” announcement at this years CitizenCon event. They have already announced the venue as the Los Angeles Convention Center which is a pretty sizable venue and is right in the heart of where many of the actors in Squadron 42 live. Also the 10 October date for this years‘ convention will once again match the original announcement date: Star Citizen was first announced by Chris Roberts at GDC Online 2012 on 10 October 2012.
Personally, I think they’re potentially close to closing off a lot of the Roadmap cards, but have a couple of significant blockers that impact on a lot of them. NPC AI stuff possibly.
The one thing that most backers seem to agree on though is that CIG really do need to communicate the reasons for the Roadmap stagnation a little more clearly.
No idea of how hard the flight mechanics are in the game, but that looked really awesome!!!
Suck it Michael Bay!
