Star Citizen

Hmm, maybe it’s time to check this out again since I’ve upgraded the PC a bit since the last time I tested out the game.

Been a while since I last jumped into the verse. I generally just look for performance upgrades in the notes, haven’t seen any. Unless they just don’t mention them anymore because they always improve performance?

I would assume this is the as AD Replication in a way… but then you also wouldn’t understand that.
So lets say, they mean that if you make any changes to the game, you attack some bra thats important, blow up a ship, buy something from a store. Eventhough there might be a server with 50 concurrent players on, all catching on their own kop se kak, it doesn’t mean that the other server with the next 50 players doesn’t see what they do. it should all reflect in reletively realtime.

I could be completely wrong here but this is what I’m reading into.

I am keen to try this if there are free play events. Will be downloading tomorrow

Invictus Launch Week 2952 FAQ

Invictus Launch Week is an event held the last week of May that marks the beginning of the new recruiting year and the graduation of the latest class of officers and pilots of the United Empire of Earth Navy (UEEN). Though a time to honor those in the Navy and other armed forces for their tireless service to the UEE, aerospace and defense manufacturers across the galaxy also takes the opportunity to showcase their vehicles designed for (or influenced by) the military. It allows everyone to see some of Star Citizen’s biggest, best, and most iconic ships up close as different manufacturers take over the expo center halls. Plus, almost everything on display is available to test fly for free!

During the event, citizens can view and test-fly some of the biggest, best, and most iconic military vehicles for free. Different manufacturers take over the Orison’s Vision Center every two days, so keep checking back to see everything the event offers.

Visitors also have the opportunity to tour an in-service Aegis Javelin destroyer and marvel at the entire Invictus fleet in flight, including the colossal RSI Bengal!

Invictus Free-Fly should start at 18:00 tomorrow evening. From then you should be able to create an account and run the downloader without needing a game package or pledge ship.

First step is Enlisting (aka creating an account). When you do be sure to add a Referral Code on the Account Creation Form - it’s the only opportunity you can do so. Using a Referral Code will gain you a couple of in game bonuses once the game is live, including some extra starting in game credits. There’s a couple of MEW Citizen referral codes in the OP post on this topic. You can enter the code manually, or follow the link from the OP to have it prefilled.

Once you’ve confirmed your account you should be able to download the installer - 124 MB. Install that, run it, log in with your newly created account and then you’ll be able to get the game install going - about 80 GB currently. Also important to have another 20 GB or so free for a page file, especially if you have 16GB or less RAM. The game is insanely CPU heavy and unoptimized and sucks a lot of memory.

Very Strong Recommendation is to ensure you install to an SSD or NVMe. The game is completely unoptimized and an HDD simply cannot handle the asset streaming. Even on SSD your first half an hour is going to have buffering as the textures load into cache.

An SSD installation and 16GB RAM with a System Managed page file would be my minimum recommendations.

Once you’re eventually in game, some community recommended graphics settings to start from:

Graphics Settings (starting point, adjust as you want)

  • Quality: VERY HIGH is usually better (forces GPU priority over CPU for visuals)
  • Turn Chromatic Aberration to 0
  • Motion Blur to Off
  • Film Grain to OFF
  • VSync to Off
  • Clouds to Medium or OFF

The new release (alpha 3.17) introduced the first of the Vulkan/Gen12 renderer optimisations and there has definitely been an overall improvement on the visual fps front in this patch.

Free-Fly events have become increasingly popular and the servers do take a massive hit, especially at the start. Personally, I’m intending to only install tomorrow’s patch update and then do a quick log in to make sure it runs. Typically, my first log in after a new patch, I hang around my starting location hab for a while to let some of the assets get cached, and then log off. I find the servers are most stable for us early - mid morning when the US is asleep.

There’s a bunch of helpful Knowledge Base posts here:

https://support.robertsspaceindustries.com/hc/en-us/categories/360000783053-New-Players

And a Community Guide system that pairs new players with experienced players who act as in-game guides:

Anyone with any questions is welcome to ping me with them - I should be available most of the weekend.

Had a couple of recent videos in mind to add here - one about the 3.17 update and another with tips for new players, but I can’t find them right now. :expressionless: Will add them tomorrow when I do.

They did the Javelin Tour thing last year already. It looks very similar to this years’ again. Here is the ex CMDR Kate, now Citizen Kate’s video of the Warhammer tour that she made a few days ago in 3.17.1 when it was on the Test Universe servers.

A fair video summary of the state of SC at the moment. I think it’s hugely interesting that OA included it in his reviews despite its Alpha state. And to give 3 positives, 2 provisional positives, and no negatives even as an Alpha speaks volumes for it. My only criticism of his video is that while he makes the fair point of comparing Star Citizen ship sales and prices to DCS world plane DLC prices, he completely neglects to mention that close to every released ship and vehicle in Star Citizen is available to purchase in game, with in game earned credits. As are most weapons, armour, helmets, character clothing items and consumables. The fact remains that for $45 (or $52 if you feel morally obliged to pay VAT to the SA government so that you can still have potholes to dodge while they erect a R22-million flagpole!) you can get the full Star Citizen experience. For $65 ($75 with VAT) you can get a combo package of both Star Citizen and Squadron 42, and never have to spend another real money cent on either.

There’s are generally some small incremental performance improvements each patch, but because of the huge disparity in impacts from one person to the next, they don’t really make a big deal about it. It’s a case of Your Mileage May Vary each time. The current patch 3.17 did see a solid fps boost for a lot of people as it fixed a lot of the ship desync issues from the past and introduced the first iteration of the Vulkan Gen 12 graphic implementation.

LevelCapGaming covers the 3.17 update pretty well in this video:

It dawned on me that you don’t actually have to wait for the Free Fly to start in order to get your download started - probably too late to make a difference now, sorry. Create your account, download the installer, run it and log in, and start your download. The only thing you won’t be able to do until the Free Fly is live is get into the persistent universe - you need a game package or free fly access for that.

Regardless of when you do eventually get in, here’s LevelCap again with his new player tips for starting Star Citizen video that I mentioned last night:

@DarthMol, @oltman, @Nosferatie and anyone else who has or creates a Star Citizen account, please drop your SC handles here so that I can add them to the main list in the OP and to my in-game Friends list so that we can maybe have a MEW meet up in universe.

Got the download going, base pack is only 13GB or so, either that unpacks or is just the first of many downloads.
