A queue just to log into the game? What is this nonsense?

Why do you want to punish yourself? Day 1 of Invictus, Friday afternoon/evening in the States, evening in the European region. The servers are being slammed, as predicted. Also why the download is taking so long I think.

Two hours in and CIG are already reporting what they politely refer to as “Degraded Performance”.

I know, you did warn us  I was teasing mostly.

What I can say is that I will need some guidance. I got out of my room and found a tram. Then got lost.

Let me know when you’re next on and I’ll try join. Or at least, maybe a screen share over Discord and I can try give you a bit of guidance that way. Can’t say I’d be the best guide ever, but I’ll at least be able to get you from the tram to your ship

What location did you select for your home?

I went to New Babbage, took the tram to the space port. Had no ship under fleet management so I thought I needed to rent one. Rented one and then saw that you get a starter ship :man_facepalming:t2:

Couldn’t find the retrieve ship terminal, visited hangars and bays, went back to the hotel. Looked up how to get to my ship, followed a guide which was slightly out of date but managed to find the right terminal back at the Space port. Got in the ship, flew up into space, looked at another guide for quantum travel since the in game hints weren’t showing the keybinding. Flew to the Invictus port, went on the tour of the Javelin but then realised it was time for the F1 qualifying so I quit. I’m guessing I’ll have to fly from New Babbage again.

Yip. Your character respawns at the last place you called “home” unless you transfer your characters imprint to a new location. You can transfer your characters imprint at a life insurance terminal or at a hospital or clinic in the landing zone or on its associated space station. When you next login (or respawn in that session after dying) you’ll wake up in a hab in that location.

The in-lore process is known as Regeneration and is quite controversial.

The Carrack and the 890 Jump ships also have med bays with Tier 2 meds in them that you can use to respawn on the ship. The whole process is all part of the medical gameplay elements introduced a couple of patches back.

Sorry, forgot the most important question…

How was the performance for you? Any major bugs or crashes?

Performance was okay, I went with your recommended settings and averaged around 40-45 fps at 1440p. There wasn’t any noticeable server lag.

One or two visual bugs, in the one hangars the one NPC’s head was jittering like crazy and when I was quantum travelling the visuals got stuck but the flight continued okay.

I can’t log in to my game. I forgot my password so got enough wrong attempts to for it to think I’m a bot. so it asked me to sign out and back in on the website… which I did(I remembered my pw again after that login attempt). But it still doesn’t let me in. I even signed in on a new browser so it forces me to 2FA again, but no dice.

Well that sucks. The forced 2FA thing started a while back so don’t know if that’s the issue. You obviously can log onto the RSI site to have made changes to your account so assume you can’t get past the login prompt to run the game?

Have you tried with your email address rather than your username/handle? Not near a PC right now to confirm where, but I also remember seeing a check box for “use email for login” and a weird long number string as a username? It maybe somewhere on the account / security settings page.

Can’t decide on primary residence… Area18?

Just tried this(without changing any settings) and that seems to work. it brings up the same 2FA thing you get on the site. So I guess the app is a site lol.
Anyways, while typing this the client is running and I’m reminded again how epic Star Citizen music is… are we sure they didn’t get Zimmer on this?

EDIT:
After I logged in I got a client update, guess what the login info shows up as now:

Agree that the music is epic. Pedro Comacho does all the music for Star Citizen.

Pedro Macedo Camacho - YouTube

Pedro Comacho - SoundCloud

Geoff Zanelli is doing the music for Squadron 42 (and some of the ship commercials).

@Nosferatie - saw your Party Invite but was literally logging in just to check my spawn point before I get load shed. Wanted to tell a mate where it was and could remember. Will try get on later maybe if I’m still awake and you’re still on.

Very broken, Olt and I had friends, no friends, party, no party. We chased the Invictus fleet, but still could not work out how to try ships.

I have an account. czechcrusaderza But this game won’t work on my current hardware. So don’t expect to see me playing any time soon.

This free fly is the worst one so far. I think probably because they just didn’t plan on such a huge influx of new players - especially over the first weekend.

Lirik did a Star Citizen stream on Saturday US time and there’s been a lot of other streamers and YouTubers who have recently started playing the game. The Invictus free-fly event has drawn over 50 000 new accounts in the first 3 days alone.

A lot of people are having hours long sessions without problems, others are struggling with huge issues. It really is a hit or miss, YMMV situation. Again my advise is to choose servers that are likely to be quieter when you go on. US in the morning, AUS in the evening, Europe in the middle. But that’s only for us down south here. Your link to the UK servers must be miles better than anything we can get onto.

ETA: This Reddit post seems to go along the same lines as my thinking:

jisis how much free space do you need to update this game. I have 15GB free and still can’t update it.

An insanely well filmed and edited Star Citizen fan-made video featuring the Drake Herald.

Sorry, only saw this now…

My install is at 76.6 GB, but I’ve always had it on its own 120GB SDD so honestly can’t tell you how much extra free space the game needs while installing.

Nothing specific about available free space on the Game and Launcher Requirements page, or the Minimum System Requirements page. At least not that I can see.

I’ve also made sure to set my Pagefile to be System Managed on the SSD that my OS is installed on, which I also try and keep a decent bit of free space on. Speaking anecdotally - never tested this formally - the SSD and the Pagefile (before I got extra RAM to go to 32GB) made an immediate and noticeable improvement to my frame count. That and remembering to delete the shaders folder after every update. I don’t know if that’s still needed, but it’s a habit for me now.

(FYI - Since 3.17, the Shaders folder has been moved from the Star Citizen install location to Local in AppData. Find yours at C:\Users\<YOURNAME>\AppData\Local\Star Citizen\<PATCH FOLDER NUMBER> or shortcut to %localappdata%\Star Citizen.)
