Wow! The graphics look so real!!!
Not the biggest achievement ever but I got 100% map completion in Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity. There is still a lot to do like max out all characters and weapons but I’m probably gonna wait for DLC now.
50 minute direct incoming at midnight.
I hope to see the following:
BotW 2
Ports of classic Zelda games (Twilight Princess, Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, Wind Waker, Skyward Sword) - I’ll take any and all
Bayonetta 3
No More Heroes 3
News on next Monolith Soft game (Xenoblade Chronicles 3/X2 perhaps)
I think an update on Metroid would be nice.
Oops, forgot about that one.
Then again, I’ve only played snippets of Metroid games but I am interested for sure.
It was kind of a meh direct in the end. Some cool things announced but overall I shouldn’t have stayed up for it.
Some personal highlights:
I just got an email from Core that Nintendo Switch is now being sold on Vodacom data contracts with Wi-Fi modems.
That’s… weird. Is 1GB or 2GB per month for 36 months even viable if you decide to take up a Switch Online subscription and game online?
You’ll probably need to purchase extra data. Maybe thats their goal. Don’t know what the average size of Switch updates is though.
There is no way 1-2GB is going to be enough for online gaming on any platform. Switch update aren’t the biggest but I think I have seen them go above 2GB and just playing online will probably use more than that in a month, depending on the game.
I don’t know if anyone else caught the indie showcase yesterday:
Some cool stuff but the Oxenfree sequel is the highlight for me.
It’s an interesting sidegrade and it doesn’t replace the original Switch either:
I would opt for this if I was a potentially new Switch owner, as the QoL stuff is worth it for $50.
Seems like this is a more games focused year for Ninty, and I’m glad!
Need a little “Teach Me Like I’m 5” help. @Pamar is getting Kid Redd a Switch for her upcoming 21st birthday (2nd hand/demo model).
We want to try set it up and have Animal Crossing ready for her to play, but without her knowing anything about it until her birthday.
But neither of us have any idea how the Nintendo platform works. We’re reading things about Nintendo Accounts and Nintendo profiles. Nintendo+? Switch Online? Do we need all these things? Can games be downloaded directly to the device, or do we have to go find a physical version tomorrow. Can we buy gift keys from third party sites or only through the Nintendo SA store?
We’re going to hijack her phone tonight so we can activate and hide all the emails and the 2FA stuff. We want to try do all the things we can online - account creation, profile setup, buy the game, etc. so that he can give it to her ready to go on her birthday.
We’re complete doofuses here, so any advice or directions Switch masters can give would be appreciated.
Games can be downloaded directly from the store onto the switch so no need to get the physical copy.
You’ll need to set up a Nintendo account to link digital purchases to. I don’t think an online subscription is required for the game but it probably is needed to visit other players islands in Animal Crossing. It’s under R300 for an annual sub so not too expensive and gives access to a library of NES and SNES games.
I have used CDKeys in the past for Switch games but YMMV. It’s also worth noting that the Nintendo eShop is having its own black Friday type sale at the moment.
Please let us know the outcome of this, I would love to hear about the experience. Very cool of you guys to surprise her like this.
While Animal Crossing does not need the online sub, it definitely is better to have one. You can visit other peoples’ islands or invite them over to yours, you can visit “dreams” (take tours of other islands without actually playing online together), use custom designs for furniture and clothing etc. There is also a pretty awesome DLC that released recently that I would highly recommend. You can either buy it straight up for R450ish or get the Nintendo Online + expansion sub which includes access to the DLC as well as N64 and Sega Genesis games. I would stay away from that sub though as it’s quite expensive and the emulation is not perfect.
The Switch only has 32GB internal memory and that fills up pretty quickly. If you’re gonna the digital route you’d definitely need an SD Card, 256GB minimum IMO, although I believe AC is pretty small in file size.
Let us know how it goes, but I can almost guarantee you she will absolutely love Animal Crossing.
