Wish they would release some of the footage (or even just the audio) from the 2017-2018 Farewell Journey concerts. I was fortunate enough to see his performance at The Dome in November 2017, and it was incredible. Did a rendition of The Crossing with the Soweto Gospel Choir that was just haunting - my crappy old phone photo doesn’t do it justice at all, but it’s a memory I’ll treasure.
The only video I’ve ever found from that concert (and the reason I’m sure there must be more) is of the song that Jesse wrote and performed for his dad.
So I’ve really had an inkling to read lately, preferably in the physical form but the prices of books are enough to put anyone off the notion of reading. So I have succumbed to the digital method and using my phone as a makeshift ebook reader. Not ideal but it works.
@Solitude was gracious enough to lend me some advice and recommended I use the app, ReadEra, which seems to be up there with the best “free” readers.
Anyway, long story short, I’ve read for about 2 hours today which has been great, considering I haven’t picked up a book (to read) in a few years. Not considering children’s reading material of course.
I started with a book I have been wanting to read for years, one that was actually recommended by the late John “TotalBiscuit” Bain. The book being Red Rising, by Pierce Brown.
At this point I am thoroughly enjoying it and glad to be reading again, albeit a bit slowly, but nevertheless it is stimulating my mind which is rather refreshing to say the least.
Guys. Before I get into what I’m reading at the moment (not that interesting), I should really recommend the sci-fi nerds to read Dark Matter by Blake Crouch (I’ve probably done this yonks ago, if so, I’ll recommend again anyway). Seriously! Do it! Not a long read, but a really gripping one.
Anyway, I’m currently in a bit of a reread rabbit-hole. I’m doing my first ever reread of the Harry Potter series since I first read the books 10 - 15 years ago (currently on The Order of the Phoenix). I’ll follow up with my second reread of Wheel of Time as I’m keen to refresh myself of that world thanks to the first season of the show being out.
After that, back to my regularly scheduled programming of Brandon Sanderson books, specifically Sunreach and ReDawn (Skyward novellas), and Cytonic (Skyward #3).
While I’m really enjoying this, Red Rising, and can highly recommend it (so far) to sci-fi fans. That being said, the Skyward series is next in line. So glad to see that someone else has experience with Brandon Sanderson sci-fi novels.
Now that you’ve reminded me, maybe I should get the Harry Potter series to read with my kids, I remember reading them when I was in school. I don’t see this being an issue for my 10-year-old, any thoughts around that?
On reading I have taken up two stories. Both started this week. I am personally reading Red Rising as earlier mentioned, and I have been reading Harry Potter for a family time every evening.
I must say, I loving it, it’s really refreshing to be reading again.
Finished the last book in the Expanse series, great end to a 9+ (if you count the novellas) book saga. One of the few Sci Fi stories that nailed the concept of “alien”, in my opinion.
