@GregRedd That DNF is because racenet DC’d, and crashed the game :man_facepalming:

@oltman Some points in the bag for Champion of Champions

I have to say, I absolutely loved this location, New Zealand has some very flowing 3rd gear bends. It’s therapeutic flicking the car from one turn into the next. And the views are gorgeous too

The only time I see any of the views is when I drive too close to them (off track)…

I think I could have done better since I got a much better feel for the car after a few stages. Lancia for the win!

Tried this out now since the update completed. It feels very different from Dirt Rally 1.

I think, in addition to the obvious improvements/changes to the handling model for the same car in DR versus DR2, the big changes that would impact how you drive in DR2 would be things like more realistic tyre and surface degradation. And that your tyre choice (Hard/Medium/Soft) does seem to make a difference depending on the length of the stages you are doing and the distance you’re driving between service stops.

Game of the Year Edition is on sale again over on Steam until 1 June.

Somehow I got a DNF for the first race. All I did was alttab out!

Maybe only do that if it’s windowed borderless mode.

So I bought the GOTY Edition… Over 100Gb download… Almost fell off my chair when I saw that! My 10 Mbps Fibre line is running full throttle and steam thinks it’ll be done downloading in a day and 7 hours… So if I’m lucky, I might be able to still get a run on the board before the deadline on Friday.

Unfortunately it seems that I need to run the game via steam at least once before it links to my codemasters account, so no joining the club until that massive download finishes.

Know anyone nearby to copy a steam back up from?

Man that last stage without lights was bad.

So my download is done!

@GregRedd if you can approve my club join request then I could possibly get a run in before the Hawkes Bay event closes!

So for a guy that has never played this game before, I think I did quite well.

I must say… Doing a midnight stage with no headlights and a bent steering rack is no fun…

Well done!

Seems those F1 skills do carry over somewhat.

Ran out of time. Was literally racing against the clock.

Maybe a little, but this is a whole different beast! I’m way too comfortable with slick tyres and tarmac…

Some excellent times on the New Zealand runs - well done all! With the late runs from @DarthMol and @Konck, the newbie-with-skills, @aldyr and @oltman’s hold on the top of leaderboard lasted until just a few hours before the cut-off time.

Top marks and huge congrats to Darth - a fantastic P1 with almost 4 minutes over Oltman and 5 minutes ahead of P3’s Aldyr. And a definite solid shout out to Konck for a very credible P4 on literally his very first day playing DR2.

I’m impressed that even after 12 tough stages and over an hour of rallying, all the drivers that managed to complete the rally penalty free were separated by less than 10 minutes. And I’m sure that if @czc and @SlinX hadn’t both picked up full stage penalties, and @Entity had managed to complete the rally, they would all have been right up there too.

The Championship Standings after 4 of 6 event:

It’s really close at the top, and as Slinx’s result in New Zealand shows, anything can happen on a rally course.

The next stop of our Rally World Tour is the Argentine Rally - 12 twisty stages through the gravel paths of the Catamarca Province mountains. And keeping things classically Rear Wheel Drive, we’ll be using the Historic 2 class cars: pick from the Fiat 131 Abarth Rally, the Ford Escort Mk II, the Opel Kadett C GT/E, or the Alpine Renault A110 1600 S.
