Deadloch

Prive Video | 2 June

When a local man turns up dead on the beach, two vastly different detectives are thrown together to solve the case, fastidious local senior sergeant Dulcie Collins (Kate Box) and a rough-as-guts blow-in from Darwin, senior investigator Eddie Redcliffe (Madeleine Sami) along with their overeager junior constable Abby (Nina Oyama). As the town prepares to launch the annual arts, food, and culture event—Winter Feastival—the trio must put their differences aside and work together to find the killer.

I do like me some Aussie comedy-thriller-drama, mate.

It must be good if they are up to Season 16! Have never seen anything of it other than Danny de Vito memes.

It’s Always Sunny is definitely a bit of an acquired taste, but once you do acquire it, you’ll get hooked. You’re right - there’s a reason they’ve gone to 16 seasons and is officially the longest running (by season) live action scripted comedy series on TV.

And it will go for at least another 2 after this one. In 2020 FX confirmed that they had renewed it for (at the time) another 4 seasons:

Can confirm. Only started watching it on D+ earlier this year. I’m busy with Season 12 now and dread getting to Season 15 and having to wait for more.

It’s the show I wake up to most days, watching an episode while having breakfast before work. In a weird way, it makes me sane for the day.

The Crowded Room

Apple TV+ | 9 June

The facts are never the whole story. The Crowded Room follows Danny Sullivan (Tom Holland), a man who is arrested following his involvement in a shooting in New York City in 1979. A captivating thriller told through a series of interviews with curious interrogator Rya Goodwin (Amanda Seyfried), Danny’s life story unfolds, revealing elements of the mysterious past that shaped him, and the twists and turns that will lead him to a life-altering revelation.

Looks like Tom Holland is more of an actor than Spider-Man would have us believe…

Twisted Metal

Peacock | 27 July

Twisted Metal, a half-hour live-action TV series based on the classic PlayStation game series, is a high-octane action comedy, based on an original take by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick and written by Michael Jonathan Smith, about a motor-mouthed outsider offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a badass axe-wielding car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck.

In a post-apocalyptic wasteland, John Doe, a talkative milkman with amnesia, is given a mission to traverse the desolate world to deliver a cryptic package in order to stay alive. Alongside the assistance of Quiet, a rash car thief, Doe faces a life-altering opportunity but must confront ruthless marauders in deadly and destructive vehicles to secure a chance at a better future.

Ten 30-minute episodes stream on Peacock from 27 July.

I’m still sceptical about game-to-screen productions - there tends to be more bad ones than good. But I’ll give this one a chance. Will Arnett as Sweet Tooth could be fun. Anyone with memories of playing the games? Not being much of a PlayStationer, I never had the pleasure.

Ya, back on the original PS1. We did play quite a lot, but the memories are pretty foggy tbh
